does tramdol cause constipation? my gp has me on this drug for pain and i am just wondering?

I never took it but found the side effects on the web.
Tramadol (tramdol is an analgesic. It works in certain areas of the brain and nervous system to decrease pain.
Tramadol (tramdol) is used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. Extended release tramadol (tramdol) tablets are used for moderate to moderately severe chronic pain in adults who require continuous treatment for an extended period.
Tramadol (tramdol) side effects include dizziness, weakness, incoordination, nausea or vomiting, stomach upset, constipation, headache, drowsiness, anxiety, irritability, dry mouth, and increased sweating.

I was given tramadol after surgery and found it quite effective. It didn't cause constipation, but you could always up the stool softeners to compensate, just in case.

OMG I hate having a different point of view to you Val (for once x) But, Tramadol is known for constipation. I checked this out with my ever so lovely - not G.P & pharmacist. Movicol is needed to counteract it's effects. Got to add this, and I am no doctor but, Tramadol was useless! It made me "spaced out" and it doesn't manage the pain for the full 4 hrs like other drugs do. But, like everything about fissures etc...is it of any use to us hiding & hoping behind pills & potions to fix them? I think not. If its chronic it needs addressing by surgery (my point of view). Movicol helps immensely to keep those bm's soft and less painful on the exit. Hence, more bearable whilst I wait for botox first, but 6 months on LIS is what I need (Not Want!) We are all unique but you don't give sugar to a diabetic

LOL, yes, I should have pointed that out, that just because it worked for me, everyone's different; just because it didn't constipate me, doesn't mean someone else won't suffer with it!
But, although it made me feel a bit "out of it", I did find it helped with post-surgery pain. Extended release tramadol, however, didn't do diddley-poo for any kind of pain.

Aww it is just trial & error isn't it? If we lived in Europe they wud be at us shoving our meds up the butt! Man Alive, couldn't live with that!! Be a blinkin miracle that I wud even let them close to me hee hee...

I found tramadol to cause slight constipation, its not as bad as co-codamol for me though. Yes side effects were bad for me - I feel extremely spaced when I take it. Quite nice to be out of it for a bit!!!!!! Found it was good for any pain I had though, I tried just taking one so the effects weren't so bad :)

i dont really like tramadol i dont think it manages my pain very well. around the 3rd hour i am in pain again and you are only suppose to take it every 4 hours. it might be adding to my constipation also. who knows.

Just keep the Miralax/Movicol up every single day. That to me is our best mate for the time being or more....Gettn bm's soft helps sooo much
