Pain!!!!

Postby JR » 17 Oct 2011, 07:21

okay so I will do the best to convey my situation. Ive been taking miralax for maybe a little over a week. But thats not the problem. what the problem seems to be is that im starting to bleed again slightly and I noticed that I have a possibly cut on the bottom of the "hole". If so that's a new one but how if im taking miralax? is that even possible. I did have a hard bm couple of days ago but I don't see how. one more question, if you don't take enough water with miralax does that make it hard anyway?

Hi JR,
You do need to drink plenty of water with the Miralax. The stool can be harder if you aren't getting enough water, even with Miralax.

You also need to remember. Fissure are weird. I have had BM where it looked like a crime scene. 20 mins later I go in to poop again, no blood whatsoever. One time there would be no blood except for a streak on the BM. SOMETIMES no pain at all and a ton of blood. For me it had no pattern. I would have a turd so big it lifted me off the seat. No blood. Have a peaceful BM , look down, blood dripping off my hand. You know the problem, don't let every variation worry you.

i had surgery one week ago, right now i'm not feeling well i'm still constipated so that the wound not heal.. i'm using faktu ointment as advised of my doctor in st.lukes it really helps can eliminate oozing, itching.. but still my every BM is not yet normal even if i drink more than 3 liters of water and eat vegies everyday right after my surgery, i talk to my doctor he said that it takes time to heal anal fissure because if your BM is still hard and not totally in a good condition the wound might not be healed so that it can cause of bleeding and come back again and again.. yesterday i started to eat prunes and and drink laxatives(duphalac) even if my stool is not so soft but every morning i had a bowel movement.. and now i'm hoping to get rid of it.

Would like to emphasis that soft regular bms are of utmost importance in healing. Each one is different, so try ur best to try different foods with the aim to soften stools. Do not rely too much on laxatives... Try natural ones instead and probably miralax to tide u over till u found a diet that helps u soften.

Miralax Works! I am in a two week process of weaning myself off of it, hope that goes ok.

JR.... You poor thing. I am 4 weeks after extensive surgery (very deep and large anal fissure, rectal abcess and hemorridectomy. My suggestions:
Sitz bath after every BM (in the bathtub 15 - 20 min).
Don't wipe... at least for a good while and if you do, use baby wipes with no alcohol. I took 10 to 20 sitz baths a day at the beginning...no kidding. But what a huge help they were.
Water, water, water.
Lots of high fiber. I am not eating meat or dairy yet. I eat oatmeal every morning, fruit, high fiber english muffins, bran muffins, veggies, mashed potatoes (staying away from salads or those foods that upset my stomach).
Huge is the Metamucil three times a day (HUGE lifesaver) mentally as well as physically. The anxiety was and can at times be overwhelming especially when it comes to food.
Eat small meals throughout the day. I make sure to include one soluble and one insoluble fiber with each meal.
Hang in there and please come back to this great forum for advice.

Ouch!! rosebud...
Sounds like you've had it bad, the pain levels must of been off the scale.. Image
I believe in sitz baths too, after my surgery I had 4-5 baths a day which really did help with the pain, I also put Epsom salts in the water, it's a well know healer! as for the wiping I only ever dabbed with cotton wool balls dipped in luke warm water then dried off with a hair dryer. Fibre can be a bad thing, especially if you're not getting enough water with it, I was taking a fibre supplement but not drinking enough water and the stools were too big and hard, which, I think have contributed to my recent tear, my conclusion is to stick with the Movicol and a load of water.
