NEED SOME ADVICE

Postby mich 777 » 15 Jan 2012, 17:51

Hi,
Im still very new to this site and although I do not appear to be suffering as much as some people on here, im still finding my fissure to be extremely annoying and very discomforting. Ive had my fissure for approx 4 months and went to see a consultant about it back in November, he prescribed some diteziem cream which I have been using every since and suggested that I have a colonoscopy to rule out any disease, I nervously underwent my colonoscopy last wednesday which was all good, however after the proceedure the doctor told me that he thought that my fissure was starting to heel and advised that I should continue to have a good high fibre diet and to exercise and also mentioned about being careful not retear my fissure. I asked him about the cream that I have been using and he advised that i should not use the cream any longer and to just watch my diet and went on his merry way.
Luckily, im not having as many spasms at the moment so I guess that it is a sign that there is some healing going on, however, from the start, I have been experiencing tailbone/ buttock ache almost like a nagging toothache that just wont go away, in fact, it seems to get worse thoughtout the day even with painkillers and a hot water bottle this does not ease and seems to drag me down to the point where im feeling overwhelmed with the discomfort and start crying. my husband has been great, but im worried that im beggining to get him down too. Im not really sure where to go from here as to how to resolve my fissure nightmare and feel like ive just been left hanging. Im going back to see my family doctor next week but not sure what she will advise as she does not seem to be very clued up.
Any advice would be great, as like everyone else, Im desperate to feel back to normal.
Michelle

Hi Mich, Most of us can tell you a GP is clueless in treating this!! 4 months is still kind of early. Some have healed them themselves. Did a CRS or GI do your colonoscocpy? I know you said you are not having as many spasms, if you are having any, your fissure will not heal. The spasms keep it open and stop it from healing. I would definately eat a high fiber diet, which you will have to do a lot of reading in the grocery store to begin with anything 5 grams or over is great. Get a mix of soluble and Insoluble fiber at least 20-25 grams a day. At least 8 8oz glasses of water a day, and if you are not doing it yet a good stool softener like Miralax. Most of us on here take it and it is wonderful. That pain in the butt and back sounds like you are still having spasms. Try not to take the painkillers as much unless you just cant take the pain, they are very constipating. Try some Ibuprofen it really takes the edge of and go for a walk, it will help loosen things up down there. So will nice warm 20 minute soaks in the tub several times a day. As far as the cream you could continue it to see if it helps, but my experience was it worked for a couple of months, then stopped working I think just b/c my body got used to it. I hope this helps and hope you begin to feel better. I would also skip the GP and find a good CRS!!!

Hi michelle I'm new here so don't have much more advice but just wanted to say hi and I'm sorry to hear of your pain, these fissures have a lot to be sorry for. Hope you get some help with the GP, I'm going back to mine next month (that's how long you have to wait for gp appointments here now) and I'm hoping he can help as I'm reluctant to have surgery as already had the botox injections and a skin tag removed.

hi mich,
I wouldn't toss out the docs advice. I've found with other soft tissue injuries that sometimes it takes a while for the pain to resolve even after things are healing well. Do you get a chance to lie down in the afternoons?
I mean, if it feels better in the morning, it is probably because you are more relaxed and rested. If you get a second opinion, I would get it from another crs, not your GP. A gp is like a jack of all trades, master of none...

Hi, mich -
ITA with everyone else - that a GP can't really do too much about this type of problem. You really need a good crs. (Don't we all??)
I'm still at 3 months trying to get this darned AF to heal - and I don't think I'm making much progress, at all. I don't know that I want surgery, but I'm not ruling it out, either.
The mental anguish from an AF can be as bad as the actual physical pain. I know whereof I speak, because I've really had to fight the depression and anxiety that hovers over me, because of this AF.
It's hard to rally, but you've got to force yourself to try. My hubs is a good guy - and he's doing his best to help me and support me - but he has no idea what kind of grief and suffering go along with having an AF. That's why it's good that we can all come to this forum and talk.

Hi Michelle,
I too have the tailbone pain and today it's especially bad. Still haven't worked out which came first, fissure or all the other weird pains. I am using a hot water bottle on it right now. I don't know if it is a consequence of straining having a BM, or some injury from a long time ago. Sometimes get the feeling that my coccyx is digging into my rectum and that it's that which gives me so much pain. I have researched it left, right and centre, and my latest plan is to see a sports doctor, to get an opinion of this, and maybe to get a 'sitting down' X-ray. Also get the leg pain, too, depending on how much pain is where. Just so you know you're not alone :)
