Kneeling chairs

Postby BillUltra » 16 May 2012, 20:20

Just wanted to share my failed experiment with the so-called kneeling chairs. They are designed for people with back problems. Most of your weight is transferred to your knees, with only a small amount of weight on what should be your lower back region.
I had two of these flown from Amazon, one for my office and one for my house. Great in theory; not so great in reality. Turns out the portion of the lower back that supported just a small amount of my weight put pressure just at the wrong spot and caused just about as much pain as any other chair.
I found it very difficult to get comfortable on these chairs even on good days, and would not recommend them.

I'll second that opinion! When (relatively) fissure-free, I loved mine. Now, it is just impossible to sit on (like pretty nearly everything else today...!).

Darn, I was hoping to find glowing reviews of these. I guess nothing beats standing, except standing isn't good for too long either (I converted my desk to be standing so that I don't have to sit unless I really need to, which is hardly ever).

Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My AF felt fine for 3 months and then I moved to a new house, bought one of "knee chairs" and after a month, my AF came back.
I almost thought that was the reason... as I put too much pressure on my butt when I knee down that way.
So, no. DO NOT BUY THAT CHAIR. The best way to help with back problem (which I had severely) is to exercise, light weight training and stretch. Be consistently, 15mins every morning and I guarantee you that you'll fee better.

Thanks... That's terrible that it came back. :( I'd be so mad.
My back is actually okay, I was only thinking that maybe kneeling chairs would be an alternative to sitting, but it sounds like they're worse. Definitely not going to get one now.

Kneeling chair is only "okay" if you sit on it no longer than an hour.
When I first tested kneeling chair at Staples, I thought it felt cool.. very different from a conventional chair. Kneeling forced my back to "push up" so I am less hunched but what I did not realize is that if I sit on it for a long time (for work or playing video game), I feel I am stressing a lot on my glute muscle as my butt was constantly trying to support my back. My legs get numb too.
The gist is sitting too long is not good. just need to force yourself to walk and do some minor running in place in the bathroom if you are at work.
