does anyone else get pain around their fissure when they cough or sneeze??! I know it sounds crazy but I feel like I have to try and make sure I'm in a comfortable position before I sneeze or it hurts my bum!!

Oh yes. I had a could a couple months ago, and it involved the odd cough and blowing my nose.
I found that holding my stomach muscles tight, when I had to do either, helped.
I think the problem is that otherwise I would hold my butt muscles tight. silly.

Me too....for the sneezing, if I caught it in time, I would hold my nose to prevent the sneeze...for the coughing I tried desperately to be really gentle about it..funny how we have to be so conscious of every little thing when it comes to a fissure!

Ohh yes, I know the feeling and I do the same above desribed... I also have this problem when I have flatulance (gas)....this is very painful, just like after BM

One thing that is helping me is gently holding my buttocks against each other with my hands while I cough. There is still some pain, but much less than normal.

Yup! Same here. I do what Dan says. For me after I had surgery, one hand was clasping my rear, the other covering my mouth I try to avoid coughing etc

Yes coughing and sneezing hurt me too. But the worst was passing gas. Every time I farted it felt like someone stabbed an ice pick up my @ss.

Blowing my nose is the worst, I find doing it bending over slightly makes it much better
