Hi! New to this, in the UK, considering anal tag surgery??

Postby catkeo » 28 Aug 2012, 08:16

Hello,
This is all new to me, and having just found this site today, I thought, "Gee - I wonder if anyone here might have advice, info and just general wisdom...which I really could use!"
I live in the UK, and have recently been told by my GP that what I have are, at least (according to her), 4 anal skin tags...(I have no idea if that is a 'normal' amount, little or alot??)
She has referred me to a specialist who I see on Sept 7th.
I also have internal and external haemorrhoids, constant constipation due to daily strong pain medication that I have to take, and therefore, along with these stupid skin tags, going to the bathroom is a daily hassle!
I can go in for a 'tinkle', and because I am so irregular with my bowel habits, I can also end up having a bit of a 'movement' as well...
Yeah, great for the 'movement', if I do have one, but it just takes me a ridiculously long time to 'clean myself' up due to feeling like I need to do so much 'cleaning' around the skin tags and whatever else it is down there that I'm feeling.
I hope what I'm sharing is OK - it's just finally, potentially, finding someone else who could possibly identify with me...whew boy...that would be good...
I've done some investigating and some reading on this site in regards to skin tags & potentially having them removed - to be honest, I'm confused!
I cannot seem to get a handle on if it would be 'worth it' to have them removed or more of a potential hassle etc.
I'm a 52 yr old female, with a condition called 'fibromyalgia', and the time & effort it takes to 'clean' myself up after going to the bathroom is really , really frustrating!!
Plus, because of the pain in my fingers and hands, (and everywhere else!), from this fibromyalgia, going to the bathroom has become a major drag...
With the skin tag scenario, I do have the odour, which seems to come and go, and itching, but my GP made it clear to me, that on the NHS, if you are experiencing these symptoms as well, there is a better chance at having them removed, as opposed to purely cosmetic reasons, which I would have to pay for.
Therefore, I find myself a bit panicked as my appt isn't that far away, and if they do say they will remove them...is that what I should do?????
Well, I'll just leave this now - I'm sure I've written too much already, sorry for that!
Thank you...thank you...thank you for reading this - it is very much appreciated!
Many thanks!

Hello there, and welcome Image
I am sorry that I don't know much about skin tags, so hope someone will come along who does and can give you their experiences.
In the meantime, here are some links on the board on skin tags, and looking through those I saw that there are some members in the UK who had this done, so you might like to start there.
By the way, I have some small tags, probably about four. What I do for hygiene is use wet Johnson & Johnson Sterile Gauze. I don't rub, only dab with the warm/medium hot wet pads until the anal area is clean. Have found this to be the best solution, of all the things I have tried, and I have tried all sorts of things Image .
