Re: Effectiveness of Miralax

I've been using a combo of Miralax and colace works great unless you forget for a couple days. Happened this past week and I'm paying for it now. Yes it can be expensive but if you can go to Costco they have the generic form you can get three bottles for less than two Miralax bottles.

The generic form of Mirlax works great for me. Much cheaper--there are many generics out there.

Just an update on my previous post. The miralax is working great but now things are way to thin/liquidy. 2 doses is a bit much. Going to reduce it from 34g down to 24 and then 20.

It took me about two weeks on miralax before I started seeing a regular bm.

I stopped miralax for a few days due to constipation and my painful bm's came back. I am back to regular dosage of one capful a day and it is much better. I guess will have to deal with the constipation as long as it means pain free bm's. Also am getting alot of gas but hopefully on my way to recovery.

I recently had a painful bm with blood on tissue and realize i may not be taking enough miralax. I was hoping to be healed with one bottle but will probably have to buy more as this will take time. I will go back to two caps a day and hope to do some healing.

I have been taking two capfulls a day and it helped until i had another painful bm. I am thinking my body is getting used to miralax and i should take more. Is it safe to take three or more doses a day? I went to costco and bought two bottles for $30 and am willing to try almost anything now.

Not sure if you can get used to it.... Maybe someone else can answer that one for you.
Just remember to drink plenty of water with it, as it draws water into your bowels so you need plenty there to maintain a soft stool.

vxnova,
what is your diet like? Sometimes too much fiber can actually cause more problems than it solves. Since doctors are constantly lecturing on increased fiber, people assume they should be adding more and more fiber. But they end up having more problems when they do so. Too much fiber can actually make stools that are too bulky and sometimes even hard if there is not enough water or if a person tends toward constipation.
Checking with a doctor before increasing to 3 doses of Miralax would be a good idea to make sure it's ok for your individual health history.
You could also talk to your doctor about adding something else in addition to the Miralax, like Milk of Magnesia, as having two different agents working in combination to bring more water into the stool could be a good approach.
Good luck!
