So I had LIS surgery 3 weeks ago!

Hello All
Well I finally had surgery, I had it done at a clinic as an outpatient procedure. The CRS that did it for me, has some great reviews, has been in business 25 yrs, and is the head of the CRS residency program at a known hospital in the local area.
As expected i did have some pain, and bruising down there post surgery, sitz baths really help with the swelling and pain management.
At first the doctor left my wound open, but after coming home it started to bleed and i could not really stop, so i went back to the clinic and he put 4-5 sutures.
I saw him a week post OP and he said all looks good, and the fissure is healing.
I am scheduled to see him agian in about 5-6 days.
I am pleased that the fissure pain is gone, but i do some have concerns that some of you guys who had surgery done might have the answer's to.
1. I noticed a small pea sized lump down there after the surgery?
2. How long before the anal sphincter can regain strength to the fullest?
3. I noticed minor pain when having BM's? also slight burning after having a BM?
4. Also i noticed after having a BM i might have a drop or 2 of liquid drip? is that because the sphincter is still weak?

Hi lionheart
I can only help with question 1..
1. I had similar lump and was told it was caused by the local anaesthetic whereby the surgeon hit a blood vessel which caused a hematoma which is the reason for the lump. That has actually been the slowest part of my recovery! I had my op a month ago and the lump has gone done significantly but there is still some residual tissue there. Gp said it will take a while to go but should eventually disappear on its own.
If it doesn't start to reduce then I would recommend asking your surgeon about it.

Hi Lionheart,
I had surgery in March this year and I too had a small pea sized lump
http://anal-fissure.org/t4589p75-my-lis-diary-march-2012-fully-healed-in-4-weeks
I later found out that this is just swelling from the incision wound and it goes away after a few weeks. The only time to be concerned is if it becomes painful, if discharge starts to come from the lump or it starts to bleed.
The sphincter never re-gains its full strength after LIS and it takes about a year to get back to 80% of what it originally was.
You are still nursing a wound so some level of burning or irratation could be possible after a BM
Some drops of brown discharge may follow a BM and may be visible in your undergarmets, I too had the same thing. This was actually the wound weeping during the healing process

Hi all, I had LIS done 3 years ago while living overseas. The doc who performed the surgery was not a specialist in this area but said he'd had success with it. I was deseperate so proceeded. He removed a thormbosed hemm and did the LIS. The weeks following were incredibly painful, worse than before surgery. I had an infection which finally cleared with antibiotics.
It took about 3 months for the worst of the pain to clear. We then moved back home to the states. I am still suffering from the enormous fissure that has been there for many years now. It did not heal and is worse than ever. The incision cite also did not completely heal is like a small 2nd fissure. It is not often painful though.
I am now considering a 2nd LIS with a CRS if they will treat me. Has anyone had a 2nd LIS? And did you have to have a colonoscopy prior to LIS? I can not even imagine going through the clean out process with the pain I am in. The fissure is long, deep, and causes intense hours of pain. Your advice is so appreciated!
