Dental mouthwash

Postby CrackinUp » 28 Feb 2013, 03:26

Does anyone here use dental mouthwash?
The reason I ask is, shortly after getting my fissure and surfing the net for answers, I found a man who swears he frequently suffered with fissures until he stopped using his dental mouthwash.
Sceptical of this but desperate to try anything I actually stopped using mine.... until last night. This morning I had pain immediately after the BM and went into spasm around an hour afterwards - this hasn't happened to me in around 2 weeks. I immediately had to use Nitro for the pain and I suspect it'll return in a couple of hours.
Now I think back, this issue started while I was on holiday and I was using mouthwash more than normal to freshen up between meals etc. This now has really got me thinking. I might even not brush my teeth tonight and see what happens tomorrow!!
Hopefully this hasn't set me back and it's just an off day. I could cry... was doing so well Image

CrackinUp, sadly no in my case, I do not use dental wash and never had.
I do drink lots of protein drinks and i read that increase in protein can flares up fissures. Image but also coffees and I am coffee drinker and have not stop my coffee intake yet.

marg, I was lifting weights and on a high protein diet for 6 months before I got my fissure. I was actually the fittest I've ever been in my life as I was also doing 10km on a bike 4 days a week.
Trouble is there's so many things to eliminate... I'm starting to lose hope. I really don't want to live my life like this. I want to be able to drink a bottle of wine if I fancy it, or eat a steak if I fancy it. Quite frankly this is a ridiculous way of living and I want my life back!
I'm more than happy to put the time in to see if this Nitro will heal me, but if I'm still having any kind of spasms after another 4 weeks (probably 2 weeks) I am going to book in LIS pronto.
GTN is supposed to fully heal you in 6-8 weeks, so if it hasn't worked I want surgery. I'm not messing around losing months, even YEARS of quality life. What if I get something serious or worse die in a years time in didn't enjoy my last year for the sake of a stupid medical procedure. Makes you think...

Bloody hell crackin, you are on a mission today. I haven't heard of the mouthwash thing?! I don't use it either, but maybe there could be some logic to it. Alcohol maybe?
I am feeling the same, whole damn thing is controlling me. I am analysing everything I eat, thinking about it 24/7, anxious prior to BM, which the last 2 days have been hell. Reopened both Fissures, back to bleeding square one. I can't go on like this. I want the LIS right now! I am gonna call CRs and ask if I can go in for it, instead of the Botox.

I don't, but I'm interested in this. I suppose it could cause an irritation in your digestive tract, especially if you are sensitive. Is it a fluoride treatment you are using?

I totally understand Rachael. If I was having a procedure done, I would chose LIS over Botox because it has a higher success rate (near guaranteed), both procedures require a general anesthetic and I would have to pay out my own hard earned cash so don't want to have to pay twice! I just don't fancy being injected with Botox. Maybe I've seen to many Botox faces on TV or something... well my ass certainly aint pretty enough for it. Image
coconut my mouthwash is not alcohol based, it's called Dentyl Active (UK brand). God knows what's in it but I swear this morning was the worst I've been in ages. Could be TOTAL coincidence but seems suspect to me. The last time I had a burn like that was after half a bottle of red wine (I know, I know, bad man) late at night... and it still wasn't as bad.

You always make me laugh Crackin!
I see what you mean, that is why I am worried, the Botox has a lower healing rate. Image
Been talking to Stratocaster on here and he is doing really well on the Botox. You never know. But the thought of going on with this for another few months, let alone longer is just too much........

Yeah, I think it's a procedure that definitely works on people, however what if you've always been a tight arse like me!! Even if it heals I'll still be a tight arse and probably re-tear or make another one.
I wish I'd taken the time to "explore myself" before this happened as I have no idea if it was always tight or not. Although until now it's never occurred to me that I might have to stick an ointment tipped finger up my ass on a daily basis just to survive uncontrollable bouts of pain.

Sadly Crackinup I am also a very fit person been fit all my life and active, while I have been able to keep my sanity with exercises over this fissure and keep a resemblance of a normal life, I have to agree that a fissure once is chronic will never heal.
It gets better but then you will get a set back, depending on the way you keep up with them, the set back can be just mild.
Now if your fissures are caused by underlying problems beside just of having a fissure that doesn't heal on its own, no surgery will keep you from getting them back.
That is what I am afraid off, I am used to the one I have but can I get use to a new one after surgery?, it will be devastating.
Is many members here that while they get great results from fissures surgery is others that had them back again.
That is life.

marg why would you have a new fissure after surgery?
The pain is caused by spasms... if you can't spasm there is no pain! Other than going to the toilet which I can live with.
