Personally, I would ask for a copy of your medical records from the CRS who suggested anoplasty before making any decision. From my understanding, this surgery is for anal stenosis. Your records should tell you exactly what he based his opinion on.

Hi, Anal advancement flap is an alternative to lateral sphincterotomy for chronic anal fissure. It's also performed for stenosis. If you have a lot of scar tissue anoplasty is preferred .

I see, I have my appt April 5th. From what I remember he said he didn't want to risk incontinence but from what I have read the chances are low. I also have read that the healing rates are slower with anioplasty. I also believe I have high pressure down there as I never have hard stools or any serious spasm.

Cueball3335 you seem to be worry about the doctor decision on treatment for you, don't go into a procedure you don't feel comfortable with.
It will be good to know how much experience you doctor have and his success rate.
I hope you make the best decision as this should be yours to make and one you will have to live with.

Cueball3335,
I was gonna suggest you take a look at a study and provide a link but I am a new member so can not post a link.
The healing process is much faster with the anoplasty and there is no risk of incontinence. You maybe too young and your CRS does not want you to take unnecessary risks.
Anoplasty I hear now is the suggested method better that LIS.

I too have been recommended advancement flap surgery instead of lis. My crs said that all the tests showed my anal resting pressure wasn't elevated, so lis wasn't needed to lower it, it would just render me incontinent. I think maybe that's the reason you weren't offered it.
