owmybum, sorry to hear that you are so disappointed after your appointment. Like you I will be very worry about a doctor with no enough experience with advance flap.
You are doing the right thing looking for another doctor, after all is our bodies that are in line here and we need to find what is best for us.
I'm sure you find a good doctor with enough experience to make you feel safe to be under his care.

Hi Owmybum. I know how upset and scared you must be. I have a friend who had advancement flap surgery 5 years ago. She is doing well and has had no more trouble with her bottom since. She started with hemmie surgery and developed stenosis, she got a fissure and she tried botox, she unfortunately developed a fistula at the injection site so she had surgery for that and LIS. This all worked for a few years but she tore again and she got more scar tissue. Her doctor told her she had one option left, that they couldn't do anymore surgery on her and it was the advancement flap surgery. She had the house advancement flap surgery 5 years ago and said it was the best thing she ever did for her butt. I talk to her a lot because I'm facing an advancement flap surgery and scared to death. She read me all the notes she kept while she recovered from the procedure and explained to me that you have to baby your bottom for a while but she said it was worth it. You should pm Anya on this site because she just had it done a few months ago. Although she hasn't updated her thread recently I did email her and she is doing really good. Try not to panic too much. Get another opinion and then decide. All the best Suzy.

Yes, I had hemmie surgery too. It left me with scar tissue but I didn't recognize it until I got my first fissure. My first one healed, my second one didn't so after almost a year of pain I had LIS. While that relieved some of the tightness it didn't really address the scar tissue so I keep tearing and healing etc. My bms are soft but pencil thin. My CRS advised anoplasty 4 years ago but I thought I could manage things and I didn't pretty well until last summer. I have an appointment for next tuesday to discuss my options again. I'm the biggest chicken in the world. I'm not afraid of the pain part, I'm more scared of the spasm, that charlie horse up the bum feeling. I can't function when that happens. And I don't like to take pain medication or any medicine. It took my doctor a year just to get me to try miralax. My hubbie is going with me to the doctors, he's my biggest support but I'm still chicken. I hope you find a solution that works for you. I'm just glad we have this group and people who give us support when we need it most. Suzy

Yes, I am glad to have found this place too!
You sound a lot like me.... My bms are pencil thin. I put that down to the movicol.
You are in no way a chicken!! What pain you have suffered over the last few years has understandably left a lasting impression on you... What normal person would willingly want to put themselves through that again, without some trepidation and fear!!!
I wish I had bought my hubby into my appointment, I just switched off on the A word and didn't really take much more in. It helps to have some one there on so many levels!

Thanks. I always write out a bunch of questions before I go to the doctor and I bring the list in with me. I don't want to forget to ask anything. Sometimes when you get nervous you forget. How long have you had a fissure? Suzy

I have had mine ever since the surgery back in Feb 2011. I have tried all the creams, pelvic floor physio etc. I had great success with diltiazem whilst on it, and almost had a normal summer last summer. I just never seem to heal all the way. I am sooo fed up of living with it now, I just need something done.... Whatever that may be!!
