Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has had this experience. I've been taking 1000mg of magnesium every day for the last 5 months. It's the best thing I've found for keeping stools soft and helping my af.
I woke up this morning, and out of nowhere, my left thigh and right foot were killing me. The other leg and foot were also in pain but not near as much. The pain is muscular, and if I rest and don't move, I can't really feel anything wrong.
Well I was just looking up my symptoms on webmd (hypochondriac here!) and lo and behold, apparently calcium deficiency (hypocalcaemia i believe) causes muscle cramps and can be caused by having too much magnesium. I haven't been drinking that much milk lately.
So basically now I'm freaking out thinking that I have overdosed on magnesium or have too little calcium and am experiencing hypocalcaemia. I also was put on diltiazem ointment a month ago and what a coincidence, you aren't supposed to take magnesium supplements with it!
I've taken 500mg of magnesium today but am not going to take anymore. I'm really worried that I've screwed something up here. But my symptoms are not as bad as they seem to be -- yes I have cramping in my left leg, right foot, and my right hand (when I type like I am now) but that's it. The symptoms for magnesium overdose and hypocalcaemia are more severe than what I have. I'm just really worried! My neck has also been stiff for like 3 days now but it's not as bad as it was yesterday.
I'm sorry I'm treating you guys as a doctor, but I am really in need of advice. Should I rush to the emergency room or just up my calcium and decrease my magnesium and see what happens?
