Miralax & Tacos?

Postby galamat » 26 Jun 2013, 14:27

Hi everyone!
It's been 27 days since my last re-tear, I avoid constipation with a soft food diet (a lot of cooked vegetables, chicken, oats, etc). I have been invited to eat tacos this weekend, Do you think that if I take Miralax that day I will be ok? I'm afraid to re-tear again, specially because I'm very close to my period.
If I take Miralax, should I take it the day before? the same day? Do you think it will help? Any tips to avoid constipation would be very useful?
I have been able to eat one piece of lasagna if the other meals that day are rich in fiber without any problems. But Tacos, I don't know because of the tortillas, those are hard right?

Hi Galamat, it's quite likely that your period will cause you to be slightly constipated (coming from personal experience this week) I'm taking Movicol (UK version of Miralax) twice a day and started my Period 2 days ago which affected my bowel movements for the past 2 days. So with that in mind I'd be very careful around your period. I'm trying to keep my BMs incredibly soft after surgery 12 days ago.
If you're really worried then I'd give the tacos a miss but chow down on beans - they're a good source of fibre.
Take care

Hi WelshDoubleFissure!
Thank you for your response, when you take Movicol, do you eat normal? Or Do you also eat a lot of fiber? I ask this question, because I have very soft stools if I eat soft food, I have never taken Miralax before, but this time I will take anything not to re-tear.
Like you say, during my period I can get diarrhea or get constipation out of nowhere is unpredictable for me, all my re-tears are close (the days before) or during my period.

I'm currently on a pretty strict diet after my surgery and have very very soft BMs because of Movicol - if they get too large, I'll tear my fissures whilst they're healing and be in agony. Strict food = boiled veg, brown rice, chicken. No junk food. In trying to stay away from things like crisps which may cause a scratch during the BM.
If you're likely to re-tear around your period then you should put things in place to make sure you don't retear.
It's tough living this way but you have to make sacrifices at early stages like this so that you have a chance to heal.

I would really skip the tacos. I know from experience. My mother made my favorite home made tacos for this last cinco de mayo and I re-tore the next morning! I even took a capful of mirilax the night before. Though were all different, I wouldn't chance it.

ok, them I will try to stick to the veggies, because usually where there is tacos there is veggies, like avocado, beans. I'll let you know how the taco thing went. Hopefully nobody will notice.
KreayButt, thank you for sharing your experience, now I know what are my chances. Ohh god one day one day I'll be normal. There was this guy that wrote the other day that fissure teaches you to value all the things in life, ohh he's so right. I had some potato chips last week and I enjoyed like heaven, every bite was like an orgasm haha.
Now that I have no pain, I feel like I have an extra time that I don't know when will end to do whatever I want, I'm like running errands, doing yoga, cooking, working, everything. Hopefully I won't go back to the painful/pressure horrible days but I need to wait for my period, because this is the time when everything seems to be worst, have re-tears, multiple trips to have BMs, etc
Image for everyone.

Have the tacos without the shell...with veggies and beans on the side, no white rice. Or make lettuce or kale as the shell? We should all start posting recepies cuz im sick of brown rice and veggies but last night i made "indonesian shrimp" with veggies coconut milk peanut butter cumin mint, onions, red sweet pepper, brocoli and it was so good i dont know why i havent been more creative with food. Plus it didnt hurt on the way out.

Ps. It take 5 to 6 weeks of no bleeding or tearing to heal a fissure so you are pretty close... No food is worth setting you back no matter how good it tastes.

So true Guiness and your Indonesian Shrimp sounds divine.
I have got to try it, I Have been so creative with my salads, like a variety on a Niciose Salad, layering it with avocados, and green beans, spinach, arugula, tuna, chicken or halibut (layer it with what you want), its the dressing that makes it final.
Dressing, pure virgin olive oil (buy best possible) with a splash of apple cider vinegar and dejon mustard. Yummy, and smooth on the way out..lol :D
