More nervous now.

Postby MONI07 » 07 Jul 2013, 21:50

I have just got back from my dr and she's finally referred me to a GI dr.. I'm even more nervous now that I was before. I was dealing quite well with my anxiety telling myself that I've had so many tests its' not possible for them to have missed anything and even though she said they still couldn't have missed anything I still keep thinking 'what if the GPs were wrong?' I' sove had scans, feocal occult tests, a colonoscopy so I'm sure there can't be anything seriously wrong.... surely.. now the looong wait until the GI doctor comes to town.

It's great that nothing more sinister has been picked up, and that all you have is a fissure.
I agree, that when you are highly anxious and in a lot of pain from a fissure it is hard to believe that it is only this tiny tear causing all the problems, but be assured by your doctors, and try and bring those anxiety levels down.

I can relate as I get terrible health anxiety. Wish I could tell you how to reduce it but I've yet to figure that out! I hope you feel much better soon.

If the tests have already been performed, especially Colonoscopy, then you should feel free from anxiety. Also, if these tests have shown no abnormal activity in your GI tract, other than a mere fissure in the anal canal, then you should be happy and celebrating :D. Believe me, testing the GI tract is the first and the most important step to investigate the cause of fissures, without which your future treatment for fissures sometimes can go futile. In other words, the chances of recurrence is high, if one is oblivious to the cause.
My only advice here is that instead of a Gastroenterologist (GI), you should go see a Colon Rectal Specialist (CRS), mainly because your issue is no longer related to the gastrointestinal tract, but the anal canal.

I'm glad that your Doctor is on the ball with this, it will be solved, try not to be so anxious. I wish my Doctor was as thorough as yours, good for you, it seems that your Doc, is there for you. and ask about a CRS Doctor.:D

Three cheers for CRS over GI
MONI07 please do not stress to much from this as that can directly affect your digestion among other things. We surely are hoping there's nothing seriously wrong.

I think she has put me to a GI dr because I have also been diagnosed with IBS have had digestive issues for about 7 months. The thing that worries me is that she hasn't actually 'seen' a fissure. She had a look on the outside but saw nothing abnormal. She said maybe there was a tear more inside or its so small that you can't notice it until its stretched open.
