:D Hi Everyone! I am so thankful to have found this excellent website. It was such an encouragement to me during my suffering from a deep, chronic anal fissure and sentinal pile. It gave me the information I sought in terms of treatment, symptoms, and outcomes. It made me realize I wasn't alone in this horrific circumstance. I am so ecstatic to report that, after undergoing LIS surgery on July 5th, I am completely healed. I am eating and sleeping normally, and my energy level has returned to its pre-fissure state. I was even able to ride my beautiful horse today!! And this is day 20 post-op! I can hardly believe it, but it is true. My suffering started about 6 months ago, and gradually progressed to a pain-level that took all normalcy from my life. I am so happy that I had the surgery. If you have a chronic anal fissure, really think about making the choice for the surgery. I can't stress enough how amazing it is to have my life back, as many people mention on this forum after healing. While the surgical option is not one that is ever pleasing to contemplate, I was hopeful from having read the posts here that if it worked for others, it would work for me. And it did. It is okay to be scared to have it done - I was. But I was in and out of the hospital in 5 hrs. I was only under a short-term anesthesia for about 40 minutes. I then took each step of the recovery one by one. One day at a time. And here I am, 20 days later, pain-free. Don't suffer any more! I wish I hadn't waited so long. Hopeful for your healing.

Thank you for posting this! I've been dealing with this for 7 months now on and off since giving birth. I just recently gave thought to surgery as I was never open to it before. I'm so glad it worked for you!

Yeah i never thought about surgery until recently, been suffering for 3 years. Really want to end this chapter of my life. but scared of surgery.

Don't be scared splinter, I have been through 4 years of a fissure, developed another one in the last 6 months while being treated with all amounts of creams. It got to a point that it was so bad I threatened to stop eating which finally got me in to see a CRS in Wales. Within 2 weeks of seeing the specialist I was booked in for a double fissurectomy, sentinel pile removal and Botox. I'm 6 weeks post op now and I don't regret a thing. Along with a diet change and stool softeners, I've managed 2 weeks of no pain or bleeding. I have a follow up in September with the CRS and by then (at my 14 week mark) hoping to have healed enough to reduce my stool softeners.
I've never had any surgery before this but I wasn't scared at all, I was nervous as I didn't know what to expect, but I was also glad that the wheel were in motion to fix those damn things that were leading my life. If your life gets to a point where the pain causes tears and you're considering changing your diet for the worst, it's time to ask for the next step.
No regrets. Even if it doesn't work. I know that I can deal with it again.

Hunter/jumpergirl here. Please - do not suffer ANY MORE! I would never take lightly suggesting surgery to anyone, as this was my first surgery ever, but had I known that in such a short time after surgery how much better I would feel, wow, I wouldn't have lived like I had to with the pain near as long as I did. Believe me - as I said in my original post - I rode my horse 20 days post-op. I could hardly sit down prior to surgery. Can you image trotting on a horse? I could never have managed with my fissure. And the riding motivated me to get it done. If there is something or someone in your life that this fissure is keeping you from, don't wait any longer. How have you made it three years? I couldn't have waited anymore as I was so tired of it totally managing my life. I hope your situation is better than mine was, but really, if it isn't, don't be nervous, if i made it, you can too!!!

Really glad to hear LIS helped you. Did you only get LIS or did you get a fissurectomy, as well (cutting away the scar tissue around the fissure and leaving a more open wound)? Did you have horrible pain with bowel movements before you got the surgery done? How painful were your bowel movements afterward? Just curious in case I have to go the surgery route. I've had my fissure since last December, but still have flare-ups now and then. Still contemplating surgery, but for now my condition is manageable.

Thanks Hunter and Welsh for your encouraging words, it means alot to me, I hope to be strong as you guys one day and ask for surgery. My main problem is i do heal eventually but then i get new ones because my ass is so tight....Hey welsh do you take miralax the last 4 years? how did you cope?

@WelshDoubleFissure, are you able to have a normal bowel movement after 4 years of this?ive been on stool softners so long i feel like my hole dosent strech enough anymore, could we get steneosis from having this too long?

Sorry its been a little while since I logged on...My CRS did cauterize (burn) the fissure. Also she removed a sentinal pile that had formed as a result of where the fissure was located. Yes, prior to surgery I had excrutiating pain after going to the bathroom, lastng hours and hours. I basically lived in my bathtub as that was the only way to find relief. When I say pain, I mean I NEVER want to experience that again. I am drinking my prune juice as I type this LOL. Good luck with what you decide to do, surgery or management as it stands. For me, I was so happy to have had the LIS as it truly did give me my life back.
