Kind of a vent/question.

Postby Kreaybutt » 07 Aug 2013, 14:45

Here's a little bit about my eating habits and needs.. I am 25 and have an 8 month old daughter whom I still breast feed. I am literally hungry all day so I eat 5-6 meals a day and snack between. Sometimes coming here and reading how little you all eat makes me feel like I eat too much and am going to hinder my healing by doing so. I'm very small too, 80 lbs now, usually about 107. Ive been pain free since may but i know i am not healed. still get weird feekings down there and had a couple bad days last week where i think i might have irritated the afs again but no re-tear. Here is my daily eating routine, please by experience let me know if there's something you "think" (cause i know were all different) that I should cut out or change.
Breakfast is either oatmeal with peanut butter, fruit and honey. OR a whole wheat English muffin or ekekiel english muffin with peanut butter honey and fruit or flax whole grain waffles with once again fruit and honey. Twice a week I add an egg in there also. Somedays ill have oatmeal AND a muffin AND fruit. lol im a hungry momma. Today I had whole wheat French toast, two chopped up dates, almond butter with honey drizzled on top, a side of lactose free cottage cheese and a peach. It was so yummy and I felt bad for enjoying it so much! "/
Lunch is usually a turkey, dark leaf lettuce, avocado, tomato whole wheat sandwich with a bowl of fruit and sometimes wheat thins or a side salad with raisins.
Or a chicken or tuna salad with fruits or veggies.
Snack- whole grain graham crackers with peanut butter and cinnamon or fruit or if I'm feeling frisky an oatmeal pop tart.
Most days ill snack on a hand full of dark chocolate almonds and cashews too.
Dinner- Either chicken or fish or shrimp with two veggies, usually broccoli, carrots, sweet potato and brussel sprouts, asparagus or artichoke. I also eat a fruit with dinner every night. I try not to eat a lot in one sitting but I'm finding that an hour or so after I'm always hungry.
For a night time snack, ill have two more graham crackers with peanut butter and cinnamon.
I drink between 4-5 liters of water a day too.
Does that sound like a lot to you all? I refuse to go hungry everyday, especially breast feeding but I so badly want to heal for good and enjoy good, healthy food!

Sounds good but if I would try anything new in your routine I would see what happens if I cut back on the floury type foods...your muffins and wheathins and graham crackers and whole wheat sandwiches. All those things I too use to love but they gave me the plug affect in my stools.
Start slowly...try one less muffin a week or a day, or try a little less wheathins here and there. You say you had a couple of bad days that irritated you; were those days, days where you were constipated on otherwise had more straining or pushing on the toilet??
Then maybe you can cut those days out with the simple elimination diet.

You are a busy nursing mum.... That doesn't sound like you are over eating at all.
One thing I would watch is the salt that is in the peanut butter. Salt is quite dehydrating.
It sounds like you eat very healthily... I wouldn't worry too much. I always lost a lot of weight in the first year of having my babies.... But don't worry... It soon piles back on again!! Lol

Are you getting any other green's, such as Kale (can be sauteed or steamed) How about coconut oil, a healthy fat and pure virgin olive oil (cold pressed) These oils are excellent for cooking with.
Yes like Buttastic said, kinda lighten up with the floury product's, even whole wheat, with my IBS, I can't have whole wheat but  I can have Rye bread, even that I can have in moderation too.
Try upping your soluble/starchy veggies as well. Oh ya, purchase the peanut butter all natural, no salt, sugar or hydrogenated anything. And Water, water, water.Image
Good luck..take care..:D

I think that amount you're eating relates to the breatsfeeding! In also breatsfeeding my 5 month old and wondered the same thing, I have tried cutting out certain foods (wheat and dairy) and do find that to help sometimes... I had my fissure for two years before I got pregnant, it did not bother me my entire pregnancy unlike most people I had such relief and normal BMs while pregnant. I had a c section, and about a month after my fissure was flared up worse than ever, I've been on a wait list for 4 months to see a specialist, it's so hard dealing with this when all you want is to go about life and take care of your baby, mine hurts to sit so often that I leaned to breastfeed laying on my side, it helps sometimes. Sorry I can't offer more suggestions, just nice to come on here and have people who are in similar situations and can relate to!

Maybe substitute some of the wheat carbs with brown rice? Otherwise your diet sounds very healthy. As for amounts, you are breastfeeding, you can't cut down your calorie intake. Your body is telling you how much you need to eat.
Gosh do I remember that. And how my body seemed to lag behind for a day or two whenever my baby went through a growth spurt.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Kreaybutt,
I remember you saying not so long ago that you wanted to put on weight!! So I really wouldn't worry about your diet at all. It's sounds like you are eating pretty much fissure friendly stuff and to be honest, apart from the snacks, I probably eat as much as you these days!!!....
Trust me, at some point, when your body is ready, you probably will start to put some weight back on!! :)

Others here also make a really good point about those floury foods...
I'm also very careful not to overdo the breads/ muffins/ crackers as these definitely add unwanted bulk to my stools!!
I stick with one wholemeal pitta a day or a couple of slices of wholemeal bread but no more than that......
