If diltiazem doesn't work, and nitro gives you a headache, do try nifedipine. You never know which one will work for you. I tried all three! Nitro was the good one in my case.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.

Guys this water bottle trick is superb. I had a BM a couple of hours ago and been sat on it since. No pain whatsoever, although I feel the beginning of pain as soon as I move . First time no pain killers after BM for months. Thanks guys

I think its a bit early to write off the diltiazem yet. ive only had it 4 days and its been prescribed for 6 weeks. Where do I get the nifedipine? Does the doctor prescribe it?

yes it's a prescription drug. Do give the dilt. more time, but don't persevere more than, say, a month. You will know before then.
