A bit embarrassing to ask...

Postby Marshall1 » 23 Oct 2013, 00:06

Hi all (If you want to go directly to the question, please skip the first two paragraphs**),

I'm new to here. Have been dealing with the fissure for 2+ years. In the beginning the fissure were caused by hemorrhoids and a bad diet. I went to this specialist who was rude and I felt like I was on an assembly line for banding. He didn't have time for me so I couldn't ask him any questions. After the banding procedures, he just gave me cream for the fissure. However, it never really healed so I switched to another specialist. After half a year or so, he said I'm almost 80% healed. And after a few more months, I'm still 80% healed. He said some people have the fissure for life and never healed. It was a depressing and demoralizing thought.

I think the most frustrating thing is, when you think you are almost healed (a couple of weeks ago for me after seeing a Chinese doctor), bowel movements became difficult and there was blood again. I think a lot of people underestimate the emotional toil that anal fissure has on the person. Someone broke up with me because sex has become an issue which leads to my question...

**My question: Will erection/sex/orgasm (let's say if I masturbate daily or have prolonged sex with a partner) affect the fissure and caused it to chafe and thus re-injured the fissure? NO doctor seems to know or want to talk about it. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it. This has gone on for so long, sometimes I just feel like giving up, but I've learned to take it one day at a time. Thanks for listening!

Hi Marshall, I am sorry to hear that AF is affecting your life.
Most people don't understand how debilitating this condition is!
I found a post relating to your question, but again there wasn't very much response:

Unfortunately, it does sound like AF is never truly healed..
It is a really depressing to think that I will have to live with it for the rest of my life, and it will likely get worse over time..
Today I was even thinking that I wouldn't mind to have a colonstomy once I reach 60 (or maybe 70..), so that I will never have a BM again and I can eat whatever I like!!
Anyway, try not to let AF prevent you from enjoying life!

Thanks east! I've checked the thread out, but unfortunately there's not much responses as well :(
I know this area is hard to talk about. When I first asked my specialist, he quickly changed the subject, and gave me a look of "why are you talking to me about this". I went to see him again today and he basically said my fissure, even though it might healed and feel no pain in the future, will still be there. I didn't know what to say. I said what about surgery, and he said I'm not that serious I need surgery. So I'm planning to see another specialist until I get the same answer!!! At the same time, I'm also struggling tendonitis for almost 10 years. So this double dose of pain really affects my emotional well-being.

I'm trying to get in shape, but would gym aggravate the AF, even though I won't be bulking up per se???
