I just wanted to share my story...
Back in late october I started having some bleeding and sharp pains during BMs. I ignored it as another hemmerhoid flareup. It progressively got worse. I waited till December 7th to see a GI. He immediately diagnosed me with anal fissures. He recommended Calmol4 2x a day & high fiber diet. He also prescribed hydrocortisone cream. The regimen wasn't helping! I went to see the GI again on a followup in early Jan. He suggested I go see a colorectal surgeon and also scheduled me for Colonscopy. Finally in late Jan I went to see a CRS in Red Bank, NJ. Phenomeonal bedside manners! He did a quick anoscopy on me and noticed that I had an internal and external fissure. The external one was healing nicely he noticed but the internal was still bleeding during the anoscapy. He prescribed me nefadipine cream. He also suggested I continue with my high fiber diet AND that I stop the calmol 4 & not take any stool softeners. He said that many stool softeners make feces claylike. This puts additional pressure on an already cut and bruised sphincter.
I followed his advise. After 1 and 1/2 weeks of nefidipine the post-BM pains were gone. I didn't have pains for hours. I saw CRS again last Thursday & he inspected me and said that I was healing nicely. He didn't even see the need for anoscapy. I am due to see him on March 14th again.
I am not too keen on declaring victory yet. I still get pain during BMs and I get severe anxiety about going to bathroom. I'll wait for few more pain free weeks before declaring complete victory.
Advice for rest: DO NOT go to GI doctor for this problem. Many are not trained to properly treat colorectal issues. Please please please...Go see a CRS/Proctologist. Your s**t is their bread and butter...

I will keep everyone else posted.
