So much blood

Postby Soreguy » 01 Mar 2011, 05:58

Well today has been a bad day, missed out on movicol yesterday and I got constipated. The passing glass feeling is accompanied by a lot of blood, I won't go into anymore detail but it was a lot. My sentinel pile seems to also just grow when I need to strain, can't wait to get rid of it, it's about half the size of my thumbnail now.
did anyone happen to get any advice from their doctor about blood loss and when it can become a problem and what symptoms to look out for?

SG,
Although in your case I'm betting that blood came from a fissure or internal hemmroid or both, blood is often a "red flag" to doctors because they tend to think of the whole picture and include other problems in their minds such as Crohn's Disease and even cancer.
You probably know that it is rule #1 to not get constipated if you have a fissure, and straining is equally bad for a fissure and can create hemmroids. But I know it is easy to forget sometimes or oversleep or whatever. You might want to check with your doctor. I don't know if you live in the U.S.? That's my two cents worth. Image

When I 1st saw my CRS the 1st thing he checked was for cancer with a d.r.e. I get regular blood tests every 6 months nothing in particular just liver kidneys bloodcount, everything is normal but platelets are just below normal(probably due to the blood loss) but nowhere near anything to worry about.
I think I will get checked for chrohns and whatever else could possibly be contributing.
The problem is I am not constipated due to my consistency, my consistency seems to be good from what i can see. If I didnt know any better I would say I have some kind of stenosis but I dont feel tight passing gas is easy with the dilt, and I got a feeling if I tell my doctor this situation hes just gonna nod his head in agreement without giving any insight into the situation.

Good advice Cheryl!
SG,
My doctor didn't say anything about amounts of blood being lost. I did got to the hospital when I first got my fissure before I was diagnosed and exaggerated with the amount of blood I had lost hoping to get a diagnosis with my fissure but instead they checked to see if I was anemic. I guess that would be the biggest concern and as Cheryl said to rule out other diseases.

Okay thanks, well as of about 1 month ago I am definetly not anaemic, but I sure as hell felt like it about an hour ago, I was breaking into a sweat and hyperventilating during the BM so that probably made me feel lightheaded rather than the blood loss, come to think of it I dont think its as much as when getting a blood test, probably 1/4 amount at most.

SG,
To help put your mind at ease--people with CD usually have diarhea and stomach pains (which vary in severity), so I doubt that is your problem! Usually need to have a colonoscopy to be diagnosed with CD--that's how my son was diagnosed!

SG,
if you are like me, just the thought of loosing blood makes me light headed. I remember feeling that way when I had my fissure and I barely lost any blood.
