suppositories

Postby Guest » 27 Nov 2007, 07:28

I saw my GP yesterday to try and get some more painkillers until I get my hospital appointment.
She gave me some pain killing suppositories, but to be honest I was a little sceptical of them. They're called Uniroid, but surely if they're meant for hemmies they will irritate the heck out of a fissure if it is one?
Anyways, I was in agony this morning so decided anything is worth a try. BUT I can't get it in, I tried several times, gritted my teeth, bit on a pillow etc.
It's almost like there is an obstruction of some kind, and it's very painful.
Is this normal, and I just have to go through the pain barrier? Image
I'm so sick of this pain Image

Can you Google the Uniroid and find out what it's made of? It certainly sounds like a hemorrhoid treatment. If it's a steroid of any type, it will be bad news in the long run...
I was never so tight I couldn't insert a suppository, but it could be very difficult. But from your description it sounds like the tightness or blockage or whatever it is , is remarkable and out of the ordinary. Did you use any type of lubricant? was it the pain more than the tightness that prevented you from inserting it?
Hang in there!

If it won't go in I wouldn't push it. I think that can wind you up with more pain and irritate the fissure.

I am sorry!

I definitely wouldn't force anything, just apply something soothing to the outside.

i always found it helpful to push on the opposite side of the canal from the fissure. That allowed me to get in the suppositories, ointments, etc... without hurting the fissure.

Thanks, you lot are the best xx
I tried again this afternoon, but still no joy. I tried a hot bath, and I tried vaseline. I get the feeling there is a blockage of some kind, but until I get my colonoscopy I won't know.
I think it's the pain more than tightness, but I don't know for sure.
I'm getting a bit worried about it all now, which definitely isn't helping.
Kim, I googled it and it said for treatment of hemmies, they contain hydrocortisone, cinchocaine hydrochloride and fat. They melt at body temp, which means that after several attempts I have to bin them.
Ah well, back to the drawing board :)

Well, the hydrocortizone is exactly what I suspected. It will only thin out your membranes down there over time, and make things worse.
It's a hemorrhoid treatment, so unless you have a hemorrhoid.....??
But why jeopardize the integrity of your anal membranes?

My thoughts exactly. Don't think I'll risk it (provided I could get the bloomin thing in!)
I put it down to my GP being pregnant and having pregnancy brain :)
