The itching....

Postby lurker53 » 03 Oct 2011, 09:26

Was hoping for some feedback on this. I know by now my fissures are chronic and I likely need surgery. I am going to find a second CRS and make an appointment to see if he thinks it's time for surgery because my current one doesn't seem keen on the idea.
Anyhow, my issue is rarely pain. My BMs might be too soft I'm thinking (like soft serve ice cream consistency) which has I think over the last year led to some looseness in the area which leads to fecal discharge throughout my day. Not alot but enough to make the area super itchy. So when I wipe, I can't stop from getting in there pretty good because of the itch. Then when that happens I then get the pain and discomfort. It's a vicious cycle.
So ny questions are-- do my BMs sound too soft which can cause that looseness and discharge throughout the day and what on earth can I do about the awful itch deep near the o ring where my fissures are?

I would back off on the softners a bit. Keep your water/fiber high. I've been having good luck with a psyllium laxative called Konsyl and one scoop of Miralax in between (mid afternoon). It promotes good soft bulky stools which is what you want. By keeping things "loose" you are not aggrivating the fissure but it's still there and loose means too soon which leads to skin/membrane wear. My CRS told me that keeping them bulky may hurt for a bit but it's best to heal with that type of bowel expansion. If you heal too tight, then the second you revert off the diet a bit, your fissure is back.
The itchiness can be signs of healing but it can also mean irritation from overuse of creams etc. I had the same thing and went off them for 3 days and bam, itchiness gone. I apply some CVS medicated powder down there to keep things dry through the day. I'm not sure about the discharge you're experiencing but it could be related to too soft/loose stools or it could be coming from the fissure sights. Best to call your CRS to confirm.

I only take a full capful of miralax once at night before bed with benefiber but maybe that is too much. Just afraid of the big BM as we all are.
I'm pretty sure the fissure areas are irritated and angry, that's how it feels. But when I leave them alone (no calmoseptine, no gauze pad) then I get the discharge and have the moisture problem. No winning it seems.

i feel tat ur itchiness is due to the fecal discharge. Try to bulk up eating more fiber then. Also, use water to wash then wipes, so u wldn't hurt the already sensitive raw skin.

Wipes don't agree with me at all, bit maybe I will moisten the TP with water from now on, does anyone else do this?
I think I eat too much fiber as it is, makes me super gassy which in turn leads to more discharge. Hoping new CRS will appear to care unlike the last one who is very qualified but keeps telling me the same things each time I see him.

Do you have the brand "Simple" over there?? I would recommend their toiletries. Make sure you use that soap or similar, on good tp. Or you will end up with bits of cheap tp on ur butt Image Just try and use detergent free stuff etc...Keep using vas too! Broken record ere now lol
