These Damn Fissures :( I need support

Postby beckyvp » 14 Aug 2017, 08:44

I had an appt with a colorectal surgeon 2 weeks ago. He did a two minute check on my butt and said "yup its fissures" gave me a prescription for a special "compound" cream that cost me $40 with insurance. I've been using the cream and honestly I feel like it hasn't helped an ounce, if anything the feel worse and they are bleeding more. This has made my medical anxiety so much worse. I don't know if I should call them back or just wait it out until me 6 week follow up appointment that is already scheduled. I just dont want anal/rectal cancer and that is all I think about!

The compound I was prescribed (Diltiazem) was not a treatment for the pain, but was a medication that encourages more blood flow to the area, so that the fissure has a better chance to heal. I was told that this could take up to 6 weeks to happen, so you're really early on if you are using the same product.
Fissure since about 2007

Diltiazem for two years - didn't work well
