Could LIS surgery give you another fissure?

Postby Runnerman » 27 Jul 2010, 18:16

So tomorrow is my 3 week mark. And it was pretty much going "normal" pain here and there set backs, good days, great days. And today Was a pretty ok day and while sitting at work i noticed a pinching at 6 oclock. My fissure was at 12 oclock? I went into the bathroom felt down in the area and felt something that might be the same kind of small bump that I had at the top of my 12 oclock fissure. It isnt anywhere near as big as the 12 oclock fissure and the pain is just a small pinch Nothing like the 12 oclock fissure. Is it possible that with all the streching that they did during the surgery that they could have given me a new fissure? My bowls have not been hard. I dont know for sure if this is a fissure or not just a pinching pain kinda tingly. The bump is about the size of a pin head. Did anyone else notice anything like this? A secound fissure after surgery or from surgery. Perhaps it was there before and I didnt notice it because the back one was So painful. GRRR!

Hey there, a small bump after LIS isn't unheard of. Some people have had hematomas, some have had hemorrhoids, sometimes a skin tag, and I personally had one that was a perianal abscess (I had to have a second surgery to have it drained). A perianal abscess like what I had isn't a common occurence, though, and it normally would drain pus and hurt. In my case, it was tender to the touch (sitting on it was definitely no bueno!) and would continously drain a bit of yellow stuff. It also grew progressively bigger with time because it was filling with pus.
I don't know what the details of your bump are, but I would keep an eye on it (use a small cosmetic mirror and squat so you can see the area) and see if it grows or drains anything. If not, it's probably nothing to worry about. But you could always ask the surgeon to check to make sure.
I suppose if they did something like a proctoscopy before your surgery, the instrument could have caused another small tear, since protoscopes are stiff unlike the softer ones used in procedures like flexible sigmoidoscopies. But it seems unlikely IMO.

I dont feel them like i did. And the test the doctor took for them came back normal. The ones in my neck are there still but they have been there since i was little. And never change in size.
I think its because I was heavy before i started running and have lost 90lbs. I feel all sorts of stuff bones, muslces, viens, etc that i never felt before...
I wonder if loseing wieght may have helped cause added anal pain I notice that my tail bone presses down in that area, while sitting. Although i still remember the exact b.m. that caused the fissure.
Anywase I have decided that running So much every day will come to end for me. I have spoken to some doctors that say some people are not built for alot of running its not good on joints and the back. When I do get back to running it will be light and just a few miles a day no more than say 10/15 miles a week.
Anywase a week from tomorrow i get my post op check up. Lets hope im healing. I do get alot less pain these days.

I am very relieved to hear that you had aspiration biopsy of your lymph-nodes (I assume your doctor did that ) and that all results came buck negative Image . I was very worried about that ... Yes, some people have them enlarged for life without any particular reason, but it is always good to check it since it is not a "normal" occurrence.
Yes - long running is not good for a body at all. Since whole "jogging" craze started there was humongous increase of knee and hip problems in very young people Image , but nobody is talking about that Image . Maybe "joint specialists" enjoy tremendous amount of a new revenue in the recent years LMAO.
Anyways - fast walking and cycling will give you the same benefit of calorie loss without possibility of an injury :D

Well today I went back for my one month post op. And the CRS that did my LIS was not there! His N.P. did the post op. She was great!
She told me what I thought was my 2nd fissure was the cut the CRS made. I even had her draw on paper where the Cut was and thats where i felt the pain. It was on my left side. I thought they did it on the right side. She told me otherwise. She also spent alot of time with me visiting about all my concerns and even Took a culture that she thought I did not need just to make me feel better.
Then another nurse came in to do the culture thats when the problem happened. She used a hard bristled brush and it scraped things up! Now I'm in more pain then i was this a.m. She did an HPV swab and she was supposed to do a bactirial swab! one has a small cotten swab on it, the other has a scrapy bristled brush!!!!
The N.P. told me before the scrapping, that my fissure was almost healed which i think is true because i have very little pain there. She said the LIS cut still needs some time to heal all the way. I guess that cut takes longer?? It didnt start hurting until this week but it was more of a pinching pain so maybe it a healing pain.
I'm soooooo ready for this to be behind me now! NEVER push to use the potty is my new motto.
The whole thing drove me to the point to see my Homeopathy M.D. to get on some anti worry drops.
