Thank you!!

Postby Guest » 16 Aug 2010, 16:01

I am new to this forum but really wanted to say thank you to all the people who have healed or are healing and stick around to give advice and encouragement to the new comers. I would also like to say I wish I would have found this website back when I first got this fissure back in March, because I have found so much useful information that may have saved me a lot of pain had I known earlier.... I am very optimistic about the new ointment I am using and the information I have read on here and when this is over for me I will do all that I can to help someone else. I truly appreciate the time you guys have taken to give me answers to my questions Image

Thank you fire-cracker and Cherylk!! The ointment seems to have really started working. Not to be gross but just passing gas was almost impossible before using it and the BM's are so much better. I called my CRS office to see if they will give me more for back up. I have enough to use it for 3 months right now. She said they don't like people to use it for a long period but she's suppose to talk to the Dr. and call me back(fingers crossed and prayers). :)

Well the Dr. called me in more of the ointment but was really pushing the surgery. He said the surgery is really simple and only takes a few days to recover. That's not what I keep reading but I told him that I really want to give this a shot and surgery is my last resort. He said he has seen over 500 people who have had it done and maybe one regrets it.

It's great that the ointment is working for you, your Dr seems a bit pushy about the surgery though, it may be a simple procedure but it's such a tender place for any kind of surgery to take place and the recovery would almost definitely take longer than a few days (in my experience anyway), personally I would keep up with what your doing, if the ointment is keeping the fissure at bay then that's great, remember, it's ultimately your choice about having surgery not your doctors!

My husband said the same thing about the Dr. being pushy.
I am going to give this my best shot before I go with the surgery. I have only been using the diltiazem for 3 weeks and I really think I should give it more time. I have already seen a great improvement but I have always been able to heal it for a while without it, but I always thought that since I felt better I could eat different things and I have learned by this wonderful forum that I need to stay on the strict diet for much longer after feeling well.

Maybe you could take the diltiazem to your primary care doctor and ask him to refill it for you? I've seen a million and one doctors and my primary care doctor has always been happy to continue medications that specialists prescribed to me so long as I explain why. I see doctors about 4-5 times a month on average and I've never been turned down :)
Otherwise you can always see a different colorectal surgeon. I don't know where you are in Florida but I figure it's a big state with big cities and imagine there must be plenty nearby right? I saw 5 colorectal surgeons before having LIS, and now I'm going to have penile surgery (don't laugh! Image) and have seen 3 urologists already. Medical insurance hates me but it's my body so I'm going to do things at my own pace and approach.
I definitely wouldn't get pushed into LIS. Do what you think is working for you and go into surgery only if and when you feel you're ready for it. I'm on the fence about whether I should have had LIS, and it's definitely not the case that everyone comes out of it just fine a few days later. Maybe for some, but it's hogwash if someone's telling you that's always the case.

Yeah I think I will try the PCD if I need more. If mine won't then I will go see my husbands and I know he will. You basically tell his doctor what you think is wrong with you and what you want and he will write you a script.
I hate not having medical Insurance though! And yes I bet yours hates you,LOL.
I won't let him push me into the surgery though until I try this and right now I'm not in any real pain. I'm just not to that point where I think I need to do that. If this doesn't work then I know I don't want to keep beating a dead horse because this is know way to live but I think I should atleast give this a shot since it's only been 3 weeks and I'm improving.

Good luck with the diltiazem healing! I've found that CRSs say it'll only take a couple of days to feel ok after an LIS which I'm astonished at as well. I agree with surgery being the last resort. At least its there if need be.
