fissure diet

about 7 months out from lis... still not healed. really need to stick to a fissure diet....
when i list all the things i cant have on the fissure diet... all i am left with is vegetables and a little grilled chicken.
am i missing something?
no rice, pasta, bread, read meat, fried food, potatoes, cakes or sweets....
what do YOU eat on the fissure diet?

tuna, salmon, applesauce, squash, carrots, potatoes, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, grape juice, baked apples, and soups for starters

ahhh oatmeal! thanks! i did not think that would be on the list.. but i started eating that last night! :)

Don't forget to avoid sharp foods like chips, popcorn, and nuts also or anything spicy. :)
There are all kinds of beans that are really good... I made bean soup and pea soup a a lot. I seasoned them with bacon or ham and just didn't eat the meat. Look at all the dried beans at the grocery store. They have a soup mix w/ a huge variety of beans in it and it's really good. I even added can tomatoes to mine, and that was really good. You just kind of have to get creative,lol... I think potatoes are fine. Just eat some less starchy vegetables when you eat them too.

Yup, lots of beans for me. Lentils, pea soup, bean soup, whole wheat pasta, brown rice. Potatoes with skin are fine. Lots of fruit, especially berries (higher in fiber). Cereals, whole wheat toast and jam, eggs, fish, seafood. Banana muffins are good.
There's lots of stuff you can eat. You just have to avoid a few things and make substitutions where necessary.
Almost any recipe can be modified to replace red meat with beans or seafood, white rice with brown, regular flour with whole wheat, fried with grilled or broiled. Cream soups can still be made with 1% milk, and a little low-fat cheese is fine once in a while.
Finally, I throw a tablespoon or two of ground flaxseed in just about everything. It adds fibre and omega-3 fatty acids, and nobody in my family even notices it's in there.

Hi kmax,

Have you considered a food diary? I've relapsed a few times and am noticing there are triggers. For me it is white rice, white potatoes, pasta, cheese or thick dairy (yogurt), nuts and seeds, bread (all kinds), pastries/cookies, and I think (gulp) chocolate.
For breakfast I usually have cereal and for the other meals it's tofu, tempeh, or beans for protein paired with vegetables. Stirfry, Indian foods (not spicy), and bean soups make this easy. For a snack I'll have some fruit or avocado slices on rye crackers.

The foods to eat/avoid that you guys mention above are exactly the same for me. In fact I've found that willpower is as important as understanding what not to eat!. Just dont walk down the wrong aisle in the supermarket! And to be ready to say no to steak and fries when its offered!

for me sweet potato is the best of the carbs, beans for protein, and fruit for snacking. right now red lentil/kale/sweet pot/courgette stew w chicken stock is dish of the day.

Here's my daily routine.

Breakfast: Mix of raisin bran and great grains cranberry cereals (i pick the sliced almonds out)
---take 50mg colace---
Morning Snack: nutrigrain bar
Lunch: Sandwich (light on the meat; whole wheat bread; lots of lettuce) with corn chips and guac (just avocado and a little lime juice) (dark chocolate hershey kiss for dessert)
Afternoon snack #1: one serving of fruit (cantelope, cherries, etc.)
Afternoon snack #2: nutrigrain/fig bar
Afternoon snack #3: apple with 8 low-salt triscuits and 1/2 soy yogurt w/ granola crumbles
---take 50mg colace---
Dinner: varies, but try to include beans, whole grain, and veggies (dark chocolate hershey kiss or 1/2 soy ice cream sandwich for dessert)

Absolutely never: beef, alcohol, caffeine, carrots, cheese, bananas
Almost never: non-wheat grain, dairy, pork, spicy foods, other sweets
Always: lots and lots of water (I add MiO electrolyte flavoring)
8/09 - 12/10: fissure, cured by LIS/fissurectomy
1/17 - present: fissure/hemms, healed but pain remained, 3 CRSs (nifedipine, infrared coag) were no help, cold dilating >= 1" helped but still have pain when sitting

I crunched the number on my diet and found that I am short on calories (thus, the continued weight loss) and am getting too much fiber (54g!!) that is about one-third soluble.
