Diltiazem (sp) expiration date?

Postby mjfarrell5959 » 03 Jan 2011, 00:25

I haven't been on here in about six months having essentially "healed" the two fissures I had that debilitated me so badly during the months of June and July (at least my doc said they were healed) but here I am again.
Had been wiping some blood the last couple weeks and just tonight found blood in the bowl and don't want my nightmare to start again. I have not adhered well to a great diet I admit and haven't been drinking as much water as I should but I still take my miralax and benefiber nightly.
Anyhow, I have quite a bit of diltiazem (sp) left over from a June rx at a compounding pharmacy but it has an expiration date of 12/15/2010. I am using it anyhow but wonder if it really loses its effectiveness after six months?
I am traveling for work so can't see my doc until next week at the earliest (after jan 9) so I have to do the best I can living out of a hotel. Wish I wasn't back amongst the fissure challenged but thank everyone in advance for any answers.

I have used Diltiazem that expired a year ago, it's ok to use but it won't be as effective.

I have a big tub of it, but chemist told me it only had shelf life of 28 days which seems very strange

Painful,
I don't agree with that time period because I used my original tube for several months (not continuously), and I think it was still effective.

Painful, My first tub of Diltiazem only had a 4 week date on it and that's the one I'm using from time to time, personally I don't believe the expiry date being so short.

I'd check if diltiazem is sensitive to either oxygen or light. Most drugs last a long time, well after the expiration date, but the ones that don't are almost always sensitive to either oxygen or light. This is true of nitroglycerin, whose shelf life is legitimately very short, but not sure about diltiazem.
