Enema prep before flex sig

Postby Bijou2008 » 24 Jan 2023, 11:43

Hi all,

I’ve been suffering w an anal fissure for almost 3 months. This has been the worst pain I have ever felt in my life! My GI doctor ordered a flex sigmoidoscopy to make sure something else isn’t going on. The prep was 2 saline enemas 2 hrs before the procedure.

This was impossible! I tried for over an hr to insert the enema but it was excruciating and I was not successful and had to cancel the procedure.

I’m so disappointed and at my wits end. I was hoping this would result in a solution and I waited a month for this appointment.

Has anyone else had trouble with an enema or am I just a big baby??

I never had a problem with enemas. They are already lubed up so it's not hard to use. I used the Fleet Enemas.

By the way, I wouldn't see a GI doctor for a fissure. Only a colorectal surgeon. They see fissures everyday. GI doctor deals with everything before the rectum. And just because they are "surgeons" doesn't mean they will make you get a surgery. But it is their area of expertise, not a GI doctor! Cancel the appointment and see a CRS.
