My "Doctor" WTF

Postby SolidLiquid » 25 Jul 2011, 09:53

Ok So I just got back from the doctor and he is sooo bad he never listens to what I say just keeps forcing his point across. So I said to him the fybogel he prescribed me didn't work and I was told "You never followed the dosage" Ok! I did, but i'll let him have that one. Then he says ok Im putting you on Movicol and he said its like the fybogel tastes worse and thats it. "Im giving you 90" The whole time im thinking 90's alot. Which I would have said if he let me speak! Any way he said "and if these dont work your off to surgery" So I said Oh yea LIS isnt that what its called. And to my surprise he said I never heard of that. Then I said well what about botox and he looked in disgust and said no and giggled a bit as if he has no clue what hes talking about. Then he just said they cut the sphincter. Come to think of it he has NEVER told me I have a fissure. He only looked at it once. Id rather someone who knows what there talking about. Who should I demand to see.
Oh and as well when I got to the pharmacist to get my prescription she said are you sure its right. And I said.. I dont know he gave me this. She said ill call him and see because what he gave you is for kids....
She couldnt get through so I left with it.

Wow, sounds like this is a gastrologist or a general doctor. You need to see a colorectal doctor that specializes in the lower colon and rectal area. I remember years ago going to my gastrologist and he just took a quick poke down there and said I had a hemerrhoid when in fact I had a fissure. It took me a couple of years to finally see a colorectal doctor to have me properly diagnosed.
But even with colorectal doctors, there are good and bad ones. I'm still trying to compare a few (at least three) doctors when considering LIS. I would really like to find a CRS that had/has anal fissure so they can sympathize with me and really have first hand experience from the patient's standpoint. At times I feel that "us" fellow board members here have more collective knowledge about AF than the medical world.
I'm not sure where you are located but any of us can provide some recommendations of CRS for you to get a second opinion.

Dont worry what GPs say, what he meant was off to surgery was off to the CRS, the CRS will go from there.
He just sounds like he is trying to project himself as more important than he is.
I have found most GPs are not much help unless you want a simple quick fix to a simple problem, if you want real advice see a specialist, this is what I do from now on.
Specialists are on a whole different level to GPs, GPs study a broad area of medicine and arnt under as much pressure to keep up to date on things, they work a lot and can always just refer their patients to a specialist if in doubt.
Usually the specialists you see do surgery every week, need to study a lot, work only about 3-4 days a week and are more knowledgeable on a narrower scope of health.
More dedicated to their profession and care more about the outcome of their patients.
