Quick question about suture/stitch after LIS...

Postby lurker53 » 16 Nov 2011, 07:57

Had LIS on Oct 28, doing well so far. Some serious itching not at fissure or incision site but CRS said I have thinned my skin and the itching we will deal with after we heal fissure.
CRS used one small suture to close when she finished LIS and said it would eventually just fall out. Friday is 3 weeks since surgery and wife says it's still there. Was wondering if anyone knew timeframe for it to fall out? Curious but also anxious that this suture shouldn't still be there. I am an anxious person overall of course.
Follow up with CRS Monday and starting to get nervous about that already. Ugh.

It depends on the individual I suppose but it will come out or dissolve on it's own, do you know if they used dissolving sutures or not?

I don't to be honest. How long did it take yours if you had one?

I had internal sutures and they was the dissolving ones, I could feel them when I clenched my arsehole, that's how I could tell that they'd gone, through clenching every now and again.

Hey Lurker, if they were supposed to fall out, it is probably the disolving ones. Sometimes they don't come out on there own. Your Dr. can get rid of it pain free when you go for follow up. I take them out of our surgery patients all the time.

Sue, that sure doesn't sound like it would be pain free! Ouch! How do they do that?

It is usually just the knotted end that doesn't disolve all the way so it's just a little snip to get the knot off and pull the rest of the suture out. It really is not painful more of a relief b/c that tiny little string can irritate. It will be fine!!! You went through the surgery and a big bump in the road with no power and all. This will be a walk in the park!!
