All Bran, Bran Flakes or Porridge

Postby Davo » 15 Dec 2011, 09:45

Which is best?
I normally switch between All Bran and Bran Flakes to get a fibre boost and to kick start my BM each day. I have read that porridge is full of soluble fibre which is probably better than Bran for Stool softness.
Can anybody confirm this?

I find Bran Flakes/ Hi Bran best. Porridge doesn't guarantee a BM for me and I don't like to risk missing one!

You could always do the porridge and sprinkle wheat bran onto it.
The bran will push stuff through, and the soluble fibre will 'shape' things to a better consistency.
I do a cereal that is a mix of grains and boasts 11g of fibre that is both soluble and insoluble. That way I figure I get the best of both worlds.

Not sure what exactly you mean by 'Porridge,' but in that respact, my favorite is good old McCann's Steel Cut Oats. I cheat a bit and have it with a spat of butter.
