Hi Beachgirl,
I actually asked my CRS this question last week.
I guess it depends on what stage you are at with your fissure healing but i like to do cardio work in the gym. The CRS said the treadmill, the stepper and the Cross trainer are fine but to avoid anything where you sit down and shuffle on a seat, i.e. exercise bikes and rowing machines.

I was told to avoid weight lifting or any exercise by a doctor. I was then told by the CRS that I could do those as long as it doesn't hurt me and it was pretty much in the ending stages of healing (which it seems to be now).
I guess you just have to feel it out. When my fissure was full blown, I DID NOT want to go to the gym or do anything really. Now, my fissure is healing and I have gone back to the gym and I just take it easy. I do notice that it may be a little sore but as long as the BMs each morning don't hurt and there's no blood or spasms, then I am OK
I was told to avoid things like squats and deadlifts and of course heavy stress in any exercise-assuming you are doing the exercise correctly. If I am curling then I should stress and cause pressure around my pelvic/anal area
