first appointment with CRS tomorrow

Postby rugbybaby » 29 Jan 2012, 20:16

What can I expect at my first appointment? I was diagnosed with a fissure, skin tag and 2 hemorrhoids by an ER doctor and confirmed by my GP.
I am sure there is scoping of some sort and I pucker in pain just thinking about it since today was a good day!
I am a total type A and need to know what to expect or else I panic and get super anxious.
Thanks!

I wouldn't panic about it. The CRS might use an anuscope to look inside a little. Depends what he can see on the outside though, as if you have already had a fissure seen by your GP, the CRS might just confirm that.
Then he/she will give you your options, and you will be on your way. Don't panic. They see a lot of people in pain!
Good luck :)

Hey RB,
Sometimes they have you lie on your side with your knees up. The guy I see now, has a special 'thing/bench/whatever" that the patient kneels on bent over resting their head on their arms. I think I works better as you are more 'open'.
It won't be too bad. But it won't be great either. The smaller anuscope is pretty small.
I'm sure it will be a relief to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about.
Let us know what the doc says.

Hey RB
I know the anxiety. My first appt with the CRS was not painful at all. He had me lay on my stomach on a funny table. On my knees and he lifted the knee part in the air. He just spread my butt open and looked. Never stuck anything in at all. Keep us posted!!

OK that was not so bad! The doctor was awesome, she was really cautious about making me feel comfortable as possible, not just physically!
It is a fissure, a "pretty good one" and I was having really strong spasms (that I could not even feel), she said that if this is a 'good day'-pain & spasm wise-when I have a bad day-it must be really bad. Well, no shit!
She recommended surgery since the situation is pretty severe. We negotiated and I am scheduled for Botox on March 20th. She said that if the Botox didn't work we can always go the LIS route. Now I just have to wait...
Thanks for the kind words!

Hey RB,
Sorry it's so bad! Sorry you have to wait til march 20th!
Can you ask them to book you in sooner if there's a cancellation?

WOI-
I am on the waiting list too. I have craptastic insurance, that requires the documented, physician directed use of non-invasive measures for 4-6 weeks prior approval for Botox or LIS.

Boy that sucks!
What do they do for emergencies though?
Some docs consider a deep fissure to be an emergency...
