HI I am new and I'm so glad I'm not alone!

Postby Les104 » 08 Feb 2012, 11:22

I have suffered with throbbing/stabbing pains from my fissure.
I find myself waiting days to go becasue I know it will bring tears to my eyes.
I finally went to the doctor and he perscribed Proctosol HC last night.. I am praying this will help!!!

Les,
I think you need to be refered to a specialist.
Proctosol didn't do much for me.
There are other topicals that would be more beneficial to a fissure. Proctosol is more for hemorrhoids. It is an anti-inflammatory, so it might lessen inflammation. Or it might just irritate things.
Did your doc actually examine you? How long have you had the fissure?
Personally I think anyone with a fissure should be refered to a CRS (colon rectal surgeon). This doesn't mean they need surgery. CRSs know a lot more about fissures than GPs or even GIs.
Please don't wait to go to the bathroom. It will only make things worse. You need to gradually increase your fiber. Consider taking a stool softener like miralax. Definitely drink more water. Stop drinking alcohol and cut back on caffeine.
You want your BMs to be soft like toothpaste so you don't strain at all. Just breath and let your automatic muscles push the BM out.
Use moistened toilet paper or a water spritzer to gently clean afterwards.
Try sitz baths to help relax the muscles, and/or sit on a heating pad.

hi les, i'm sorry that u're suffering. what u were given will not help u at all.
read up on the thread "my success story" for some more ideas, else if all else fails, u can try LIS which has helped many here
lastly, see a proper CRS!

Hi Dwarf,
I have looked for your success story but can't find it...
Could you post a link to it please?
So glad you are all better!

Oh I found it. Silly me! I didn't scroll down enough.
Very interesting. Nice to hear aloe vera helped cure you. I was sad when I read others saying it helped but didn't make much difference. I have always found it to be like a miracle balm for other skin problems.
What kind did you use? Was it a gel? Or did you use the capsules and cut them open?
Thanks!

hi tanya, i used 100% aloe vera gel, perseverance is key. It took me about 2 months, combined with sitz bath and soft stools, vit c and magnesium oxide for things to start looking up.
even now i'm almost healed, i still do occasional stings / burns frm the food i eat (yes, my range of foods has went back to almost normal, i can begin eating my nuts and curry!) and i will use aloe vera to calm it down. :)

dwarf,
I have been unable to find anything that is 100% aloe vera. It would go bad and decay after just a couple days. I worry about the preservatives in such a sensitive area.
May I ask what brand you use?
Maybe they sell it here in Canada too...
Thanks again,
Tanya

Hi WOI. Have you had a look at http:://www.herb.com for aloe vera? Just make sure there's no alcohol in it. I had a look the other day but never got round to ordering any of the AV.

Sav,
Ummm, I'm thinking you meant to type iherb.com??
Not that I wouldn't mind some of that other herb when I am feeling better :D
I have the Jason's gel brand and it has served me well but I've never put it anywhere that delicate.
The lily of the desert one sounds really good except for the ascorbic acid. I guess I could test it on my lips first?

I'm doing pretty well with the lanolin though, don't want to rock the boat just now.
