Concerned about bleeding.

Postby unfortunate » 03 Apr 2012, 19:41

I've browsed this forum for a month or so and have found it helpful since I was diagnosed with a fissure about 3 months ago. I've had issues on and off for many years with fissures and hemorrhoids but had never officially been diagnosed with anything but hemorrhoids.
Until about a week ago, my situation had consisted of mostly bothersome as pain, with occasional mild bleeding during BM. My concern is that over the past 10 days, 7 of them have had bleeding BM with moderate to severe pain. The blood is single line of blood down a the BM and bleeding in the bowl and on TP. Doesn't appear to be any blood at any other times than during BM
I'm obviously concerned as I've had bleeding before but it's always limited to a day, and then goes away. I'm planning to go see my Dr again, but in the mean time was hoping for some advice on why this change may have occurred so abruptly. Anyone else experienced something similar?

sorry you are hurting!
Often I think there is no rhyme or reason as to why an af gets worse. But you are right to see a doctor. See a specialist rather than your GP. IMO
GPs are notorious for misdiagnosing.
If in the US or Canada, look for a colon rectal surgeon (crs), if in UK, I think they call them a proctologist.
If the blood is bright red, it is likely a fissure, but you won't know for sure til you get it checked out.
Probably, you need to make your stools looser in the meantime. Think of the consistency of soft serve ice cream or toothpaste. This way you won't need to push or strain at all during a BM. That is the key to healing.
