I just wanted to write a post about my journey of pain over the past 4 years.
In Oct 2008 I went to the Doctor's for a prostate check up and due to rough handed doctor who didn't use enough lube I was left with a fissure. Within a day it was agony.
After trying lots of different things waiting for the specialist I finally saw him in the Mar of 2009 who diagnosed an acute fissure at 6 o'clock (towards the back). He gave me nifedipine 0.5%.
I used this and admit maybe only a few times a day as it was difficult to apply 4 times a day being on the road, in meetings etc. This helped a bit with the bleeding, spasms, general painfulness but never cleared it up totally and would often re appear with the smallest of increases in the size of the b/m.
After lots of research I decided to change my whole lifestyle in an attempt to finally clear this thing up. Here are some of the things I did that helped with the pain.
* Eat a healthy diet with high fibre, brown bread, rice etc, stopped bread
* Drink 2 liters of water a day at least
* Started applying nifedipine 4 times daily religiously
* Started drinking coffee to assist with b/m
* Started taking Zinc and magensium which softens the stools
* Cut back on alcohol
* Took more regular sitz baths
* Drank liquid wheat grass and even when most desperate used it as a topical
Off all the above I have to say when I took the zinc and magensium I saw the best results purely because my b/m were so soft, it was such a relief.
Anyways - I went back to the specialist in Feb and he said it was the nicest bum he had seen in a long time lol. It had totally healed, however he said it may be possible to return under the right conditions.
Now all I do is apply nifedipine once at night and touch wood its been 4 months since an episode. I feel like a different person. I am scared to stop the nifedipine but will eventually do it once I get up the courage.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask away :-)
If I had to choose my top 3 things to do I would say:
1) Drink drink drink lots of water
2) Apply nifedipine 4 times a day and especially just before a b/m
3) Try zinc and magnesium before bed to soften stools
And dont put off going! Its the worst thing you can do no matter what the pain - I know I've been there.
Good luck everyone :-)
