Diltiazem itching... Anything else?

Postby owmybum » 08 Oct 2012, 03:08

I used diltiazem for a few weeks and got on with it great. Even though it didn't heal my af it made life a whole lot easier.
Since getting a new tube(by a different manufacturer) I can't use it. It's itchy beyond belief and stings like mad Image is there anything else, that will not give a headache, that I could ask for. Have been trying to get an appt.with my crs but nothing has come through yet so going to see my gp later.
At this moment in time I will try anything!
Thanks OMB x Image

Hi OMB,
Was the cream prescribed the same as before (the 2% Anoheal)? Just wondering if they gave you another type or can you go back to your GP/ pharmacy and see if they can get you what you were using before??
I just read that Diltiazem can also be taken orally (think you'd need to check with your CRS on that, but the link below is quite interesting.....
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11535842
Other than that, my Aunt (She's a nurse) suggested something called Proctofoam. Have no idea how successful this is but can be definately picked up on prescription.
Hope this helps your poor bum :)

Hi ever the optimist,
Thanks for the info... The link was very interesting, good results for the topical diltiazem.
It was the same 2percent cream but in a different box, so I assume it is made by a different manufacturer. I had no probs with the first lot whatsoever.
I will ask about proctofoam

Have just looked up proctofoam.... It says it can only be used for 7 days. I think it is hydrocortisone based, so it may thin the skin. I will ask about it though
Thanks again

Aw OK, Shame - I didn't know a lot about that but just had it mentioned to me.....
One thought that also occurred to me though is the possibility you might have built up an intolerance to the Diltiazem cream generally. I think a few people have mentioned the itch and not sure whether it's an immediate reaction for some or you can just become intolerant after a while to it?.... I hope not for you and that you can find the same you initially had. I'm a real advocate of the cream as I also used it for seven weeks and am absolutely convinced it helped hugely in the healing of my fissure.
Hope you are able to find something soon x

Thank you ever. I just need to find the name of the old brand. I will be phoning the hospital chemist to ask today. I asked at boots yesterday but no one knew anything about it and when they looked it up they just said it was un licensed.
They couldn't help me at all.
I have been doing a bit of research and have come across Anoheal.... Is that the same thing as diltiazem?

Have you tried applying the cream inside the anus, I used to apply around the anus and got itchy and very sore with bleeding then once I applied internally it all stopped, also only use a small amount, the recommended amount is pea-sized though I used a bit more (trial and error) as over application increases the risk of side effects including itching and burning.
Hope this helps.
