Do you have IBS, Diverticulosis, Crohn's, etc.?

Postby roadscholar » 15 Oct 2012, 10:38

I was wondering what, if any, correlation there is between other common intestinal disorders and fissures. I have had IBS for over 30 years and was first diagnosed with diverticulosis in 1994. I have had about 8-10 bouts of diverticulitis, since then. It usually corresponds to a move to night shift and changes in my medications and routine. My GE doc tells me that I have some sections of spastic colon and I have had several benign polyps removed. I also have hemorrhoids from time to time and occasionally one that bleeds. Anyone out there with related conditions?

I have IBS/C and diverticulosis. The diverticulosis comes with having constipation issues!! I have had 2 thrombosed hemmroids in the past. My younger son has Crohn's Disease.

Hi,
I have mild IBS and am even more mindful of it since the fissure came along. I have learned from this experience that stress plays a major role in the effects on my bowels. Whilst I've never suffered "major" constipation, I recognise now that when stressed, I do find it harder to go, hence the straining, which probably caused the fissure in the first place, either that or bouts of that and alternating diarrohea...Since getting the fissure and in a bid, to never get another again, I'm really careful to regulate my stress levels and ensure I eat well to keep things as soft as possible, so even if I am struggling to go, at least, I know it will come out soft! To the best of my knowledge I don't have any other bowel related disorders but I do think my stress related IBS caused a lot of the problem! (That and childbirth too) :)

cherylk: It sounds like you and I are on the same page, except it is my wife who has Crohn's.

I'm very involved with spreading awareness about IBD. Tmorrow night I'm planning to listen to a webinar about the future of IBD. I hope that your wife is doing OK with her CD. Do you live in the US?

Yes, I am in the US. My wife's Crohn's has been in remission for 5 years. She just had her exam and got a good report, last week.
