Yea... everything just feels more aggravated in general. I had a larger than normal BM at the beginning of mine, which I think didn't help much.

yes, here too. Not surprising, really. Hormone changes, fluid retention changes, circulatory changes, bowel changes, muscle changes, increased pelvic congestion, etc. So much is happening I'm usually more surprised to hear of women who don't experience changes with their fissures during their period.

Same here Ladies, my last period was so bad on my fissure. It hurt more than usual, it was so horrible that I just thought, uhmm I better cure my fissure before my next period.
And I was wondering also, since I have quit so many foods (meat, pasta, rice), if is my body that is weaker, but know that you are also experiencing it, I guess it's just hormonal.

I have the same problem around my period. There's water retention and extra blood flow to that general area. Lately, though, it seems like PMS aggravates it more than having my period. I think it's the water retention and stress that irritates it the most. Hormonal fluctuations really do a number on me, even on birth control pills.
Water retention, extra blood flow, change in bowel habits, crying fits, getting angry for stupid reasons... sometimes I hate being a woman. -_- It's even worse when you have a fissure.
January 2013 - Diagnosed with fissure. Eventually turned chronic.
History of IBS and anxiety disorder, along with fear of using bathrooms other than my own caused it.
Tried Diltiazem, but eventually developed a rash.
LIS surgery scheduled August 26th.

Just joining the club! :)
I didn't even realise that my periods had any effect initially on my fissure until I started to notice a bit more aggravation at certain times of the month and then the penny dropped too!
I also tend to notice effects around ovulation time too and I notice my stools are always slightly firmer and slightly more difficult to expel too at these times!
Does anyone else have an issue with tampons too in the first day or two? I feel that they add more "pressure" to the area when having a BM and I've been finding it easier to remove the thing and then do what I need to do!
Sorry bit TMI but really curious to know if anyone else experiences this sensation or is it just "me"!? :)

I'm so glad it's not just me then!!!
ETO.... Since having a fissure I hate the feeling of a tampon in there.... Not to mention the fear of the string going backwards.. With the effect of a cheese wire!! Image
I wonder what we can do to lessen the symptoms??

I'm on birth control pills just for cycle regulation. Think next cycle I may try just to skip my period altogether for a few months. Would have done it this time but I forgot a few pills and was already having spotting early.

OMB,
I don't think there's much we can do! Image
Personally, I don't like using pads so prefer not to use them, so I think I'll just have to continue to deal with this one.
It does help a lot though removing a tampon when having a BM.......& LOL at the string issue too!! I have had that experience once or twice, mainly at night time, when sleeping but thankfully, it didn't do too much damage!! The stuff we ladies have to contend with eh?? X
