You can see & feel mine as it starts just outside the opening, I'm not sure how long it is (too painful to find out)it might only be a few mm, I had a tag removed from that one too. The other one is slightly higher up inside.
Before surgery, I would feel the stool pass the higher one (pain on the right side of my sphincter) then about a second later as the stool moves, I feel the lower one hurt (pain on the left side of my sphincter) then the stool is out.
I had both of these excised (scar tissue removed) to start fresh healing.
Does that make a bit more sense?

That makes perfect sense - I guess it's a case of whether they are positioned higher inside the anal passage or lower (which makes sense when people say they can see them) Mine was always much higher up, so could never be seen visibly.
I'm also guessing from your experience that no matter where they are in that passage that they are as equally stubborn, painful & difficult to heal?? I was kind of thinking that if part of the fissure were closer to the opening that it might have a better chance of healing but I guess it's all to do with blood flow in the area and not exterior exposure?
