That would make sense, if I am constantly just tight. Although I've never had that problem pre-fissure!
I think that I'll have to try botox regardless, just to jump that hoop with my CRS. I would love to get a second opinion, but I know to see another specialist I'd have to wait a year.
I think too I'll see if I can talk to my GP about everything, in case there's any way he can help.
I say a Hail Mary when I poo.

That's good that you're exploring your options, but if you ever decide to go for an LIS try to do it with an actual CRS. I've heard many stories of people who have gone in for an LIS with a general surgeon and ended up having to get the surgery redone because the surgeon didn't cut enough! :)

Not much fun.  My Crs also is very hesitant to do lis on a young woman.  Maybe that's why?  I am on my second round of botox.  Not much difference yet.  Kinda of wished I had sugery instead but Crs said does help a lot of people.  Just waiting it out now for 3 months otherwise I would do lis next.  I would rather have less bowel control if it meant no pain.
I also take miralax every day.  I was at 1 full dose. And now at 1/2.  My gastro. Guy said I should take it every day forever.  My first Crs said no and that's how I tore again last summer. So I am sticking to it.  I myself find too much fiber makes me constipated.  I try to stick to low gluten or no gluten.  This also helps my bms be smaller and softer.

Postby Just 'Pain' Tired » 25 Jun 2013, 23:08

I wish the AF fairy godmother could just tell us each the right 'recipe' to keep our pain at bay!  I am sort of a scientific person and so I kept daily logs for weeks and weeks (what I ate, pain levels, BM numbers--all of it).  Couldn't see a clear relationship between what I was doing and what I experienced the next day.  I mean there are some obvious things, like staying hydrated and not eating super constipating foods.  But other than that.....it's still a mystery.  I will be on the same regimen and one week soft stools, the next too firm.  So I have to assume other factors are at play.  Maybe hormones.  I am post-menopausal so there is nothing clear to track there.  I tend to think the mechanics of the tear, scarring, tissue are a big factor.  I also think putting up a hail Mary, or singing, or praying couldn't hurt!  Not much fun....so sorry you have had such a long wait to see a specialist.  Hope you find relief really soon!!!:D

I've never had spasms. At least the sort I can feel. But I've still had a fissure for about a year and a half. I also had LIS done about six months ago. So yeah, go figure...

Ah! It's so confusing for everyone. Almost wish you could just suture the suckers and be over it.
I don't know if having no spams is a good thing or bad thing.... good there's less pain overall, but bad because maybe it indicates a very stubborn fissure.
Supposedly while I "taper-down" my Miralax, its okay to have a little bit of blood and little bit of pain while my sphincter adjusts- any opinions on that?
I guess it's worth it to give Botox a shot (pun intended). And if it doesn't work for me, at least its ruled out.

Just Pain Tired- initially I kept a really detailed journal too, everything I ate, all the supplements, water, fibre, BM's & pain level. It did help me out a lot to figure out the best types of foods to stick to. But even with a very consistent diet, BM's vary too.
Hopeful- I totally try to avoid gluten too, it's definitely a clogging-type food. Thank goodness for oats!
