Re-tear tips and debating Botox?

Postby Deleted User 2651 » 02 Jul 2013, 12:34

Hey all,
I'm debating Botox. I have had my fissure for around 4 months now. I have multiple fissures all around my butthole and it seems like as soon as one heals up, another one re-tears and then that heals and another one re-tears. I'm at my wits end. I was on Rectiv for about 2 months and I didn't notice a difference and now the doctor is talking Botox.
I honestly have no idea what to do... I have really soft BM's but it always seems to re-tear. I'm now just using aloe and coconut oil through the day and vaseline with BM.
Can anyone share any thoughts? My overall perception is that botox doesn't heal the fissures... it helps the healing process and doesn't prevent re-tears...
Seriously... how do they not have a miracle drug for this?
Frustrated but trying to remain optimistic,

Hi K, I too was at my wits end, 4 years of fissures, no support from GPs apart from trying all 3 creams and by the time I was on my 3rd cream, it went chronic and unable to heal without surgery.
I was so depressed that I was willing to do anything so I could be back to my normal self.
My surgeon hadn't decided what he was going to do until the day of surgery when I was under anaesthetic and he could have a proper look without me being in agony. He decided to excise both my fissures ( one on each side), remove a skin tag and he gave me Botox.
I have no doubt that I'm in a better place now than I was, I'm 17 days post surgery and now having little or no pain compared to how I was.
I suggest you go see a Colorectal specialist who will have a look at your little fissies and hopefully figure out what you've got. You might find that it's only 1 or 2 but in awkward positions.
Would I go through it again if it doesn't work this time?
For sure. Without a doubt. Until its healed - I'm going to fight it.
Hope that helps,
Welsh x

Yes it is terribly frustrating trying to figure out what to do. but as your nick suggest, hope is everything dealing with a fissure.
Hope is what is allowing you to try the botox route. Who knows, it may be a piece of the puzzle my friend. I was hoping to hear about your diet, as your constant re-tears makes me wonder if your missing something there.
We have to attack these monsters on all fronts and from everyside. I would also ask you if you have other issues like IBS or something. Please do not give up fighting this, though answers may not come in a timely manner always keep hoping.
keepingthehope, I just went to check a lot of your other post and did not see anywhere of your mentioning what your diet is like. Is it possible something lacking there causing you re-tears easily. Lets rule that out if we can...

Hey!
Thank you both for the encouragement. I haven't been diagnosed with any bowel disorder, nor to the best of my ability do I know if they run in my family.
I eat a super healthy vegetarian diet. So lots of Kale and spinach and quinoa and bean based dishes. Lately I've been doing a lot of homemade soups. Could not eating meat be the problem?

KTH you eat the same things as me, I'm looking into the Magnesium vitamin , to help further..Please see my new post, regarding what formulation of Magnesium is best and what works for everyone?
Please see your Doctor as to rule out any other thing going on.

U wondered
Could not eating meat be the problem?

I dont think so. To note, I spent my first 25 years as a vegetarian with no fissures.
Ok so we can rule out diet (hopefully snacks aren't a problem) for the most part. But keep attacking the problem. Ask yourself how much do you eat when do you
eat, are you getting the exercise needed to keep stools soft, is your water intake sufficient?
All these and more are the things you have to stay on top of to keep those stools soft. Its a CSI my-anus indeed trying to keep our stools just right. And its days like the 1st of July and the 4rth that make things hard sometimes right.
I remember many weekends when I used to get real couch potatoish, I easily noticed how my stools would seem to be much harder following those weekend meals.
So something as simple as this, no matter what we eat can give us a hard stool.
You mentioned lately you've been eating soups; is this with or without the protein based beans or quinoa?
Just keep brainstorming and experimenting and reading and your "aha" moment will help figure why you keep re-tearing.
GL to you..

lolol..Its a CSI my-anus Image    so funny, laughter is the best medicine.
Funny you should bring up, quinoa, On its own its a complete, soluble and protein meal, which works great for me.  One day I had it with an extra protein. big mistake it bulked the BM up, never do that agian, but on its own with, chopped, sliced steamed assorted veggies and it works like a charm, Once or twice a week, of course the ratio is more veggies to quinoa.
Of course some proteins are harder to digest, like red meat,
Fish like halibut, is easier to digest, I try to get in wild salmon, when I can.
