Does anyone else get awakened by severe anal sphincter spasms?

Yes, I don't know why, but definitely had anal spasms at night multiple times.  You would think if you're so relaxed it wouldn't be an issue, right?  Even though I'm quite far into healing from a severe AF, about a week ago I was up for much of the night with these.  I keep a heating pad plugged in next to my bed.  I might get up and use the toilet, then apply ointment, then turn my heating pad up to high for a while, then down to medium and fall back asleep.  It's so unfair!!!! Wishing you well.  Image

As a 4 year sufferer and a post fissurectomy & Botox receiver... Oh and a mild narcoleptic... I'm afraid not, I find that sleep is the only relief I get from any pain in life. I'm very lucky that I can sleep through anything. I may have been woken once or twice in my early days of surgery but I was aware to not sleep on my back and put pressure on the area.
Which way do you sleep? Could be connected. Try to sleep on your side or front. Place pillows around to stop movement. I find cwtching (welsh word for hugging) the duvet great for comfort. Keeps my legs apart to relieve pressure in that area even more.

During my 1/2 year with an AF, I have been woken by spasms at least two times.
- Fissure developed in Jan '13
- Started rectogesic in Feb '13 and diltiazem Apr '13.
- Got botox Jun '13
- Healed by Okt '13, although I still had some irritation for about a year.
- New fissure April '22, healed June 2022
- New fissure 24. December 2023

....reponding to Welsh's comments about sleep position.  I always sleep on my sides or front.  I agree staying off the back is a good idea with AF's.  A pillow or duvet between the legs/knees does feel good.  When I use the heating pad, I start on my back but then roll to the side before falling asleep (sometimes keep the heating pad over the rear if I'm having a time of it with spasms).  Sweet dreams everyone!

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I sleep on my side, with a pillow padding my knees.  However, I can't allow myself to sleep through "signals" because I have a j-pouch (no colon) and if I sleep more than three or four hours I have accidents.  Image
There are times, however, I get more than a signal . . . I actually awaken from a hard spasm and pain.  Unfortunately I have more than just AF, I have strictures at the anastomosis (where my ileum is re-attached to my sphincter) that also cause spasms.  I grow scar tissue like prize roses . . . and more surgery just means more scar tissue.  So round and round I go . . .
I was just wondering if others get woke up too . . . and now I know I am not alone.   Image

No... You are not alone. When my fissure was fresh I would feel very sharp shooting pains through the night that would wake me. They have disappeared now my fissure is more chronic.
