What's better, 0.4% or 0.2% nitroglycerin for a fissure?

Postby putty » 12 Aug 2013, 17:42

Went to the Doc two days ago.  He prescribed 0.4% nitroglycerin, called Rectiv.  It was $442 dollars. Too expensive.  So I called back and he replaced it with 2% nitroglycerin for $31 dollars.  I tried a very small amount.  Within one hour I was dizzy and I had the feeling like my blood pressure was lowered, like I was going to faint.  So, I decided to dilute the 2% down to 0.4 or 0.2% with a nice innocous cream from Walgreens. I have accurate scales at home.  This is no problem.  I just need a target concentration level.  I judt want something that heals in the background.  My fissure is actually healed, leaving a small irritated skin spot.  From here on out, all I need is exercise and and low acting ointment for one application per day.

I discovered that the 2% nitroglycerin is the wrong medicine, a mistake. It's called Nitro-Bid and is a heart medicine for angina. I should have been prescribed Rectogesic 0.2% for a fissure at $31.

It was not a mistake.
2% Nitro ointment is prescribed both for heart an for fissures :)
I know it sounds stupid but that's true..
I am using 2% nitro as a support for my Botox therapy.
You are right. Dizziness and headaches are side-effects which for me are bearable at the moment but at the beginning (1st week) I had some difficult moments.
Please consult your doctor once again since not everyone can use it!
Expensive nitro you have, wherever you live (US?). In Poland I paid 5$ for 30g of 2% ointment.

Interesting. I just got a call from the pharmacy. They said it is the right medicine and to dilute it with petrolatum. My problem is that I already have fairly low blood pressure, and this medicine has the danger of lowering it more to the point where I want to pass out. Last night I did dilute it to 0.2%, and that is what I will use. That and playing tennis and exercising more should increase blood flow to the area that needs final healing.
