Hi everyone, have spent about 30mins reading the general correspondence on the website and am very impressed with the level of detail and discipled comments from my fellow sufferers. I had a perianal abcess drained 6months ago which formed a fistula. Seton insertion followed after a period of 6 weeks. Am now scheduled for surgery tomorrow pm as my surgeon is keen to remove seton and lay open the tract.I have had some success with seton as after learning to live with seton life is almost normal.Ultrasound report before recently indicated that 8mm of the sphincter muscle will need to be cut to expose the fistula tract!!!!.My surgeon has assured me that this will not cause incontinenece. Has anyone out there had a similar muscle dimension cut? and if so what was the consequence? Your urgent replies would be most welcome.

I know one of members got 4mm cut, and it was very very conservative as per his surgeon statement. So i think 8 mm is not a big deal also.

Thanks Carmona, will they cut through the sphincter muscle? If so how much?

Surgery done. Dopey for a couple of days due to anaesthetic. Mild discharge from wound but at this stage relatively comfortable. No sitz baths just showers after BMs. Hoping healing process will take from inside out. Any tips to ensure this will happen from anyone is appreciated.
