Rectogesic - how to apply?

Postby bgd » 07 Jan 2014, 07:48

Hi!

Got a tube from Germany and the instructions being in German I have no idea how much to apply. I used it like this:

1 AM - 0.3 ml
3 AM - 0.4 ml
4 AM - 0.5 ml

It only provided temporarily relief. Got some serious headache which went away in a couple of hours.

I also got some burning when I applied the 2nd time, I wonder if overdosed. Hope that's not what caused the spasm I had for over 13 hours.

I never experienced burning with nitroglycerine (which is the active ingredient of rectogesic). I wonder if it's the carrier that is burning you. My nitro was compounded at the pharmacy, with something similar to vaseline.

As for the headache, I tried applying just tiny amounts for the first few days, and worked up gradually. I never did get a headache. But after I stopped for a couple of weeks and started up again at the full amount, the first application made my head throb incredibly. Luckily that was the only time. Try starting with really small amounts.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
