Dietitians who specialize in treating people who need a gluten-free diet say these foods often are more expensive, so they recommend focusing on naturally gluten-free options and choosing less expensive wheat alternatives, such as corn, rice and gluten-free oats. Rachel Begun, who writes The Gluten Free RD blog, says even if just one person in a household requires a gluten-free diet, it can be easier and less expensive to prepare gluten-free meals for the entire family to avoid the extra cost of buying specific foods.
