Hello everyone, I got my first fissure when I was about 5 months into college. I had no idea what I was experiencing when I first started experiencing sharp pains in my butt. I figured it was just something that would pass over. But months passed by and I still experienced that terrible pain. I could hardly walk to my classes, I was depressed and I would cry about it to my mom, and it was all I could think about. After speaking about it with my mom she believed that eating the bad college food led to constipation and eventually the creation of a fissure that caused the pain I was experiencing. I had tried to heal it on my own, but the pain only got worse. i couldn't hang out with my friends anymore or workout if I wanted, I could only just sit there. I felt like I was wasting away. But then my mom couldn't stand to see how miserable I was and scheduled me an appointment with an anal specialist. I was really nervous and scared. She prescribed me a paste to put in my anus twice a day. I actually felt better and could start exercising and enjoying life again. But soon I felt the pain come back and I became so upset and thought that I'd never be normal again. That's when I decided to move forth with the sphincterotomy, which took place in October 2013. It was a rough first few weeks, I felt like I would die every time I had a bowel movement. But now here I am today at 4 months post-surgery. I am feeling WAY better than I ever thought I would have, I was a little discouraged at first but I can feel the progress. I have learned that I cant go out and start walking right after I have a bowel movement, I have to wait a while to recover from it and then I feel great again. I still have pain, I just hope that the pain continues to decrease as the months go by. I've learned to eat better and stay away from fried foods- eat more vegetables and fruits! Well, there's my story! I would like anyone to post their recovery journeys or any advice that you have for me. How did you feel at 4 months post-surgery? Thanks for reading!
