Hi all-

I'm now on ~2nd year of my fissure. It fluctuates between being nonexistent and being crippling in terms of pain and anxiety.

I've tried all creams, diets, suggestions, drs. Really hesitant to have surgery.

For the past month I've been drinking lots of water, taking occasional OTC softener, daily chlorella (stopped psyllium due to stool size) and eating lots of vegetables. Avoiding sugar and carbs with limited dairy. Last night I "reripped" and am currently experiencing one of the worst bouts I've had in 2 years. So disappointed because I was focusing so hard on eating well and healing.

I'm so upset. Can anyone please offer some advice or support? I've just bought a juicer and will try to avoid solids for a week if possible.

Really sorry to hear you are suffering. We all have been there, it's just such a horrible affliction. I would say get an appointment with a CRS. I'm on about day 20 of Botox and it has helped but there have been mixed reviews about it. If your a good candidate for surgery you might want to consider it. Living with this is pure hell. Read the forum and see what others have to say, there is a lot of great info. I wish you the best.

Hi Kittypuff, that is awful. I am so sorry. Two years is way too long to live like this.
As Apes said it could be time to think seriously about surgery. LIS has a high success rate. Of course we are all afraid of incontinence. Talk to a CRS that you trust and see what s/he says. I really hope you find some resolution.

it sounds that like me you live well and sensibly and dont know of any reason why you get fissures. I had the problem a good while and have identified a strange shooting pain in my low back some weeks before a fissure appears. I am wondering if my pre existing disc degeneration leads to poor function below the belt? Most of my problem feels like poor circulation down there. I had IBS for 25 years of the frequency kind and some GERD but no other major medical issues. Do you have any back issues?

I do hVe loser back issues but my fissure was caused by a colonoscopy.

So you had a bowel issue and went for a colonoscopy..I had a flexible colonoscopy several years ago but I had to wait for my fissure to heal at that time before having it done..I had no suspicious signs just one small tender area which we assumed was a pile inside. that is most unfortunate to GET a fissure from a medical investigation. I am so sorry for your bad luck there.

No bowel issue it was a cancer pre screening.
