Progress being made, but should I change what I'm doing?

Postby carinae23 » 22 May 2014, 10:57

I've had some good improvement with my AF in that the pain has lessened and the bleeding is just about gone, but I think I may be doing too much now to keep things regular and soft because now I'm going twice in the morning, and I could really do without the second one because it hurts and is really irritating afterward as opposed to the first one of the day which doesn't hurt much at all and only causes very minor discomfort afterward.

I know maybe my fiber intake is too high, but I'm afraid of decreasing it and getting constipated, which I've always had a problem with and which is what caused my problem in the first place. I take Metamucil 3xs a day (1 tablespoon each time), I drink a lot of water throughout the day, eat a good amount of fruits and veggies, and I also drink 8 oz. of prune juice every morning. I'm thinking of eliminating the prune juice...or should I not change anything since it seems what I've been doing is working and just deal with irritation from the second BM? Any advice from the experts would be much appreciated. : ) Cari

I never had the constipation problem, but was having 3 BMS a day, all in the morning. It was causing the same problems you are having. I have changed my diet and I'm now having mostly 2 BMS a day, sometimes one. I was taking one Tablespoon of Metamucil a day and eating a lot of fiber, when I told my CRS about the problem he told me to increase the Metamucil. That only created bulky stool and did not reduce the frequency. I have since switched to benefiber, 1 teaspoon a day and Miralax 2 teaspoons at night. My BMS are formed but soft, and like I said I now have 2 BMS a day. If make changes do it slowly, and maybe just change one thing so you know how your body reacts to it.

Tea shouldn't hurt. I definitely eat less. I have lost 15 pounds, didn't need to. There are plenty of good foods to eat. It's a matter of figuring what works best for you. The goal is to have a soft BM. STuff that works for me may not necessarily work for you. Drink lots of water. I wS never a big water drinker before but now I drink at least 3 liters a day. I have been told that It may be to much but it's working now. Lots of baths. Best of luck, it takes time. Any help I can offer please feel free. This forum is great, information or just to vent. It has helped physiologically so much.

One more thing, I find keeping a diary to be helpful. Basically whatever goes in and comes out. Also make notes of pain level.
